His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held an audience today with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at the Sheraton Doha Hotel on the sidelines of the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit convened in Doha.
The meeting took place at a time of heightened regional concern, following the Israeli attack of 9 September, which resulted in loss of lives and widespread condemnation from the international community. During the audience, President Dr Muizzu conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives for the fatalities caused by the attack. He expressed firm solidarity with Qatar, strongly condemning the violation of its sovereignty and affirming the Maldives’ full support for Doha’s efforts to uphold peace and stability in the region.
President Dr Muizzu commended Qatar’s leadership in organizing the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, which has brought together leaders of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States. The gathering provides a crucial platform for addressing the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and for strengthening the collective voice of the Muslim Ummah. He further acknowledged Qatar’s long-standing contributions to international mediation and its ongoing humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.

Discussions between the two leaders also focused on advancing bilateral cooperation across a wide spectrum of areas, including development, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. President Dr Muizzu expressed gratitude for Qatar’s continued assistance to the Maldives, particularly in sectors that enhance socio-economic growth and national development.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared vision to deepen Maldives–Qatar relations and underlined the importance of unity within the Muslim world. They reiterated their joint commitment to uphold international law and expressed support for a just and peaceful two-state solution, recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to sovereignty and self-determination.
The Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, hosted in Doha on 15 September 2025 under the auspices of the OIC, has drawn participation from heads of state, senior government officials, and international dignitaries. The central theme of the gathering is collective action to address ongoing atrocities, protect human rights, and pursue durable peace and security in the region.
President Dr Muizzu’s participation in this high-level meeting demonstrates the Maldives’ dedication to principled diplomacy, reinforcing its global image as a nation committed to peace, cooperation, and shared prosperity alongside its partners in the Islamic world.
