President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, departed for Doha, State of Qatar, on the evening of 14 September 2025 to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, which will take place on 15 September 2025.
The Summit, convened by the State of Qatar under the framework of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), brings together Heads of State and Government from across the Islamic world. It has been urgently called following the Israeli attack of 9 September, with the aim of addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis and escalating violence in Palestine.
During his visit, President Dr Muizzu will deliver a national statement at the Summit, reaffirming the Maldives’ strong and unwavering solidarity with the State of Qatar and the wider Muslim Ummah. His address is expected to emphasize the Maldives’ consistent call for urgent and collective international action to halt the atrocities being committed in the region, and to defend the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
The Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit provides a unified platform for Muslim leaders to discuss immediate measures to safeguard peace, stability, and human dignity in the region. Key dignitaries, including leaders of OIC Member States, are gathering in Doha to strengthen collaboration and call for concrete international steps that can end the violence and ensure justice for the Palestinian people.
The participation of the Maldives at this high-level Summit demonstrates the country’s commitment to international diplomacy and its proactive role in addressing pressing issues affecting the Islamic world.
