A luxury sanctuary known for its exclusivity and world-class hospitality, Velaa Private Island is once again reinforcing its commitment to community wellbeing through the 2025 edition of its flagship initiative, Fehikuramaa. Launched on September 1st in Landhoo Island, this year’s campaign expands its reach to all 13 inhabited islands of Noonu Atoll, delivering a month-long series of interactive, school-based sessions dedicated to promoting nutrition, physical activity, and healthy lifestyle habits among children and families.

The Fehikuramaa programme is a cornerstone of Velaa Private Island’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. Since its inception in 2021, the initiative has served as a bridge between the resort and local island communities, focusing on long-term, sustainable impacts in health and wellness. What makes the 2025 edition remarkable is the scale and collaborative approach, it is being implemented in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Maldives, local councils, schools, and community organizations.

At the heart of Fehikuramaa lies the mission to empower students with simple, actionable knowledge on healthy living. Each session is led by experts who combine classroom instruction with hands-on activities to make the learning more practical and relatable. As part of the engagement, every participating student receives a portion-controlled nutrition plate to promote balanced eating at home, along with a gym bag to encourage regular physical exercise.

Mohamed Mausoom, Resident Manager at Velaa Private Island, emphasized the programme’s tailored approach: “Fehikuramaa was created to meet community needs island by island, and this year we highlighted the everyday habits that shape lifelong wellbeing. Our aim is to empower students with simple tools and knowledge they could use immediately, at school, at home and in their communities.”

UNFPA Maldives has lent its expertise to the initiative, reinforcing the broader message of health equity and environmental harmony. Shadiya Ibrahim, Head of Office at UNFPA Maldives, noted, “Everyday choices in food practices and interaction with the natural surroundings determine future health outcomes.” She further highlighted UNFPA’s commitment to working with partners in the private sector to foster inclusive development, particularly for women and youth in remote island communities.

This year’s Fehikuramaa campaign follows a series of philanthropic contributions by Velaa Private Island. In May, the resort donated MVR 500,000 to two prominent national organizations, the Cancer Society of Maldives and the Maldives Autism Association reflecting its broader commitment to public health and inclusive development beyond Noonu Atoll.

While Velaa Private Island is celebrated internationally for its ultra-luxury villas, exceptional service, and pristine natural setting in the northern Maldives, the resort continues to extend its influence beyond hospitality by nurturing stronger, healthier communities. The Fehikuramaa initiative underscores the resort’s dedication not only to providing unforgettable experiences for its guests, but also to ensuring that the communities in its vicinity thrive through thoughtful, consistent engagement.

With this expanded campaign, Velaa Private Island demonstrates that luxury tourism can coexist with grassroots development—leading with empathy, collaboration, and responsibility. For visitors to the Maldives, this commitment adds another layer of meaning to the destination: a paradise not only defined by its turquoise waters and serene beauty, but also by its dedication to building a healthier future for all.
