President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with His Excellency Li Xi, Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. Li Xi attended the meeting on behalf of President Xi Jinping, reflecting the importance attached by China to strengthening relations with the Maldives.

President Muizzu expressed his gratitude for the kind invitation and generous hospitality extended during his official visit to China, noting that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit provides a valuable platform for global engagement and constructive exchanges. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to further deepening ties with China, describing the bilateral relationship as one built on mutual trust, respect, and genuine friendship.
Discussions between the two leaders focused on expanding practical cooperation across a wide range of areas. President Muizzu stressed that the Maldives attaches great importance to China as a strategic partner, particularly in advancing development priorities in infrastructure, trade, investment, and digital innovation. For his part, His Excellency Li Xi highlighted the importance of promoting regional peace and stability while deepening cooperation with the Maldives. He emphasised that practical collaboration between the two nations will contribute to mutual growth and prosperity, reflecting the shared priorities of both governments.
The meeting concluded with a state banquet hosted by Li Xi in honour of President Muizzu, further demonstrating the warmth and respect between the Maldives and China. The event served as a symbolic reaffirmation of the enduring friendship between the two countries and their shared determination to carry forward the partnership into a new era of cooperation.
