President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Rt Honourable KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention Centre. The meeting underscored the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and Nepal and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.
During the discussions, the two leaders exchanged views on further deepening bilateral ties, with particular emphasis on advancing cooperation in education, economic diversification, and multilateral collaboration. They highlighted the potential of education exchanges and academic partnerships as a means of empowering youth and strengthening cultural connectivity between the two South Asian nations.
The leaders also addressed the importance of economic diversification, exploring opportunities to expand trade and investment links, while noting the mutual benefits of closer economic collaboration. Additionally, both leaders recognised the value of working more closely in multilateral platforms, emphasising regional cooperation as a pathway to sustainable development and long-term stability.
President Dr Muizzu expressed his appreciation for Nepal’s continued support and goodwill towards the Maldives, acknowledging the historical depth of the bilateral relationship. Prime Minister Oli echoed the sentiment, underlining Nepal’s readiness to strengthen ties and pursue tangible results through closer engagement.
The meeting concluded with both leaders agreeing to translate their shared vision into action, aiming for outcomes that advance mutual prosperity and regional cooperation.
