Marriott International has wrapped up a high-profile promotional roadshow across India, spotlighting the Maldives as a premier travel destination through its exceptional portfolio of resorts. The event, held in three major Indian cities, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, was part of Marriott’s larger strategic initiative to reinforce the Maldives’ position among India’s top outbound tourism markets and to foster deeper commercial and media engagement around its Maldives-based resorts.

Over 250 travel trade professionals, including leading tour operators, travel agents, and 25 top-tier Indian publications, participated in the multi-city roadshow. Organized as a blend of sales missions and curated media meetups, each city event created valuable platforms for relationship-building, content collaboration, and long-term strategic planning. The initiative focused on sharing rich destination narratives and exclusive resort offerings across the Marriott Bonvoy Portfolio of Resorts in the Maldives, which includes some of the most luxurious properties in the Indian Ocean.

This marks Marriott International’s first combined market initiative for its Maldives portfolio in India, building upon years of engagement by individual resorts. The integrated approach signals a refreshed and deliberate emphasis on long-term growth in the Indian market,  one of the Maldives’ fastest-growing tourism segments. The initiative also highlighted the Maldives’ continued appeal as a dream travel experience for Indian travelers, known for its combination of privacy, natural beauty, and curated hospitality experiences.

Marriott International’s Maldives-based resorts are renowned for their idyllic locations, including secluded private islands, expansive overwater villas, and powder-soft beaches that consistently attract leisure travelers, honeymooners, families, and wellness seekers alike. Beyond the breathtaking surroundings, the resorts offer culturally immersive experiences from Maldivian culinary journeys and wellness rituals to marine conservation activities and personalized excursions, positioning themselves as more than just places to stay, but as destinations in their own right.

Commenting on the occasion, Peter Foreman, Senior Area Director of Sales, Marketing and Distribution, Singapore & Maldives at Marriott International, emphasized the importance of sustained engagement:

“India is one of our most valuable source markets, and this first roadshow is a vital step in deepening our engagement. This is not a one-time effort. It’s about building a foundation for sustained growth, driven by trust, knowledge sharing, and mutual value with our commercial partners and media and to showcase the Maldives not just as a destination, but as an experience that resonates with modern Indian travelers.”

Marriott International also reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian travel market by exploring future collaborations such as familiarization (FAM) trips for key agents, joint marketing campaigns, and customized travel packages tailored to the evolving preferences of Indian tourists. These packages are designed to match increasing demands for wellness, sustainable tourism, cultural engagement, and personalized travel.

During the media sessions, insights were also shared from The 2025 Intentional Traveler Report conducted by the Luxury Group by Marriott International. The study surveyed affluent travelers from India, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan, offering deep insights into shifting tourism patterns. The report revealed growing expectations around authenticity, sustainability, and wellness all of which are deeply embedded in Marriott’s guest experiences in the Maldives.

This strategic outreach comes at a time when Indian arrivals to the Maldives continue to rank among the highest globally. According to the Maldives Ministry of Tourism, India was one of the top source markets for tourism in recent years, accounting for over 208,876 arrivals in 2023 alone.

With this renewed focus, Marriott International in the Maldives is well-positioned to enhance its footprint in India, not just through luxury resort stays, but by delivering meaningfully curated island experiences that align with the values and aspirations of today’s discerning Indian traveler.

For Indian tourists seeking the ultimate combination of privacy, luxury, and authentic experiences, the Maldives, through the lens of the Marriott Bonvoy resorts—offers an unmatched escape just a short flight away.
