As part of the high-level engagements during the state visit of Indian Prime Minister His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi to the Maldives, Vice President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, paid a courtesy call on the visiting leader. The meeting reaffirmed the close and friendly relations between the two nations and further reinforced their shared commitment to collaborative progress.

During the meeting, both leaders reflected on the strong diplomatic ties between the Maldives and India, which are rooted in mutual trust, shared regional history, and long-standing people-to-people connections. These foundations have shaped a resilient partnership that continues to evolve through consistent cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

Vice President Latheef and Prime Minister Modi discussed several key areas of mutual interest, with an emphasis on capacity-building programmes, which play a vital role in empowering institutions and individuals in the Maldives. The meeting concluded with both leaders reiterating their joint commitment to deepening the Maldives–India partnership through practical and forward-looking initiatives. Prime Minister Modi’s state visit marks a key moment in the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India. His engagements in Malé have included official talks with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the signing of multiple development agreements, and participation in national celebrations commemorating six decades of diplomatic cooperation.

For the international community and foreign visitors, such high-level engagements signal a stable and forward-moving Maldives, committed to regional cooperation and sustainable development. Strong bilateral ties with India continue to translate into improved infrastructure, enhanced healthcare systems, youth-oriented programmes, and greater regional connectivity—making the Maldives not only a premier tourism destination, but also a country anchored in lasting and inclusive partnerships.
