To improve religious travel connectivity, Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has introduced its first-ever direct flights to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, dedicated specifically for Umrah pilgrims. This new service is being launched in close partnership with the Maldives Hajj Corporation and The Traveller Umrah group, aiming to offer a more accessible, comfortable, and streamlined travel experience for Maldivian pilgrims.
The inaugural direct Umrah flights are scheduled to depart on the 22nd and 27th of July 2025, and will be operated using Maldivian’s Airbus wide-body aircraft. These aircraft are specifically suited to offer a higher level of comfort for long-haul travel, especially for pilgrims making the sacred journey. Over 750 pilgrims are expected to travel on these scheduled flights, a figure that reflects the strong interest and demand for a more efficient travel option to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Maldivian’s decision to introduce direct Umrah services follows consistent feedback from local Umrah organisers who have called for easier and more efficient travel arrangements. By reducing the need for multiple flight connections and transit delays, the direct service enhances both the convenience and safety of the pilgrims.
Earlier this year, Maldivian successfully operated similar flights for Hajj pilgrims, further demonstrating its capacity to manage large-scale religious travel logistics in coordination with local institutions. Building on this experience, the airline continues to position itself as a reliable partner for spiritual journeys, reinforcing its national role in facilitating travel for religious observances.
