In a noteworthy stride towards elevating luxury service standards in the Maldives, Madifushi Private Island has successfully concluded the internationally acclaimed SABA International Hotel Butler Training Programme. The high-level training initiative, conducted in collaboration with the South African Butler Academy (SABA) International Butler Academy, is a globally recognised benchmark in personalised service excellence. By hosting this intensive programme, Madifushi Private Island reinforces its reputation as a premier destination for refined hospitality and professional development.
The resort welcomed Master Trainer and Principal of SABA, Mr. Newton Cross, to lead the programme. With a distinguished career spanning decades in the luxury service industry, Cross brought an engaging, heartfelt, and inspirational approach to the sessions. His commitment to unlocking the full potential of participants resonated throughout the training and was evident in the growth displayed by attendees.
Held in two separate batches of three-day sessions, the programme ensured focused attention and an immersive learning experience for every participant. The training covered a comprehensive curriculum including personal grooming, modern butler service protocols, etiquette, food and beverage management, guest relations, and cross-cultural awareness. This broad scope provided a holistic foundation for delivering world-class hospitality in high-end resort environments.
Beyond the confines of its own operations, Madifushi Private Island extended this professional development opportunity to selected team members from Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). This inclusive approach reflects the resort’s vision of uplifting the broader Maldivian hospitality ecosystem through shared excellence and inter-organisational collaboration.
The programme’s setting, Madifushi Private Island offered a serene and inspiring backdrop for such an intensive training. Located in Meemu Atoll, approximately 150 kilometres south of Malé, the island is accessible by a scenic 35-minute seaplane journey from Velana International Airport. Spanning over 16 hectares, the exclusive island resort is surrounded by turquoise lagoons, pristine beaches, and lush greenery, providing guests and staff with a tranquil environment that complements the island’s commitment to curated luxury experiences.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mohamed Hilmy, General Manager of Madifushi Private Island, emphasised the importance of nurturing talent and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in the hospitality sector. He praised SABA’s training delivery and acknowledged the remarkable progress made by the participants, noting heightened professionalism and self-assurance, particularly among the first cohort.
“Carry forward the values and skills learned, not just as part of the job, but as a reflection of the Madifushi spirit—one that strives for excellence, elegance, and heartfelt service,” Hilmy remarked during his address.
This initiative aligns with Madifushi Private Island’s broader commitment to excellence in service delivery. Since its opening, the resort has positioned itself as a luxury retreat that seamlessly blends authentic Maldivian hospitality with international standards. Each villa on the island is designed with privacy and sophistication in mind, featuring private pools, direct beach or lagoon access, and curated interior aesthetics. From personalised butler services to fine dining experiences rooted in global and local cuisine, Madifushi offers a refined escape that appeals to discerning travellers seeking more than just a holiday.
By investing in globally recognised training programmes, Madifushi Private Island not only enhances guest satisfaction but also cultivates a professional workforce equipped to meet the evolving demands of the international luxury tourism market. The resort’s dedication to staff development and cross-sector collaboration highlights the Maldives’ growing appeal not just as a destination of natural beauty, but also as a hub of hospitality excellence.
As the tourism industry continues to expand and diversify, initiatives like this underscore the Maldives’ commitment to maintaining its competitive edge in the luxury segment. Madifushi Private Island stands as a model for how private sector leadership and international partnerships can collectively raise the standards of guest experience in one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations.
