To cater to increasing travel demand during the mid-year school holidays, national carrier Maldivian has announced an extensive expansion of its flight schedule across both domestic and international routes. The enhanced operations, running from 22 June to 9 August, are strategically timed to support the seasonal surge in passenger traffic driven by leisure travel, family visits, and medical appointments.

Maldivian, operated by Island Aviation Services Ltd., will be offering additional flights to 16 domestic destinations across the Maldives, reinforcing its role as the country’s leading provider of air transport. Key regional airports receiving boosted services include Gan International Airport in Addu City, Fuvahmulah Airport, Kulhudhuffushi Airport in the north, and Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll. Other local destinations are also covered under this revised schedule, ensuring improved connectivity between the capital and the atolls.

The airline has ramped up the frequency of these flights particularly between 22 July and 9 August, a period that traditionally experiences peak travel activity. According to the airline’s schedule, several routes will see near-daily operations, allowing greater flexibility for domestic travellers, including tourists seeking to explore more of the Maldives beyond its popular resort islands.

Internationally, Maldivian will operate supplementary flights to two major Indian cities, Trivandrum and Cochin on six select dates: 25, 27, and 30 July, and 3, 8, and 10 August. These destinations are widely favoured by Maldivian residents for medical services, shopping, and short leisure breaks, and the airline’s increased frequency is expected to ease travel planning for outbound passengers.

Currently, Maldivian operates a fleet of 25 aircraft, comprising a combination of wide-body, narrow-body, and turboprop aircraft tailored for both international and domestic sectors. The fleet includes an Airbus A330 and an Airbus A320 for medium-haul international operations, in addition to ATRs, Dash-8s, and Twin Otter seaplanes that are crucial for servicing the geographically dispersed islands of the Maldives.

This seasonal schedule expansion is part of Maldivian’s consistent efforts to provide responsive and accessible air travel options that match market demand during key holiday periods. By offering increased seat capacity and frequency, the airline not only enhances travel convenience for local residents but also supports inbound tourism by facilitating smoother transit for international visitors exploring the nation’s atolls.

As the national flag carrier, Maldivian plays a critical role in sustaining the country’s economic and social integration by ensuring uninterrupted air links between the capital and remote islands, as well as with international destinations in South Asia. Its adaptive scheduling strategy during high-demand periods underscores its commitment to providing reliable, customer-focused services across the airline’s route network.

Tourists planning to travel within the Maldives during this period can benefit from this expanded schedule, gaining access to a wider range of islands and experiences. With more frequent connections and a modern, versatile fleet, Maldivian continues to support seamless travel across the Indian Ocean’s most scenic destinations, enhancing the overall visitor experience in the Maldives.
