His Excellency Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives, paid courtesy call on Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed on 08th July 2025, at Ministry of Islamic Affairs. The visit served as a reaffirmation of the longstanding and deeply rooted relations between the two nations, particularly in the area of religious cooperation and shared cultural values.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Malé, was marked by a warm reception reflecting the Maldives’ continued appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support in religious and developmental affairs. Upon his arrival, Ambassador Al-Qahtani was welcomed by Minister Dr. Shaheem and senior officials of the Ministry. As part of diplomatic protocol, the Ambassador signed the Ministry’s official guest book, symbolizing the strengthening bond between the two governments.

During the discussion, Minister Dr. Shaheem conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. The Minister highlighted the enduring friendship and generous assistance extended by the Saudi Arabia’s Government to the Maldives, particularly in advancing Islamic education, supporting religious infrastructure, and facilitating developmental programs under the Ministry’s portfolio.

Dr. Shaheem also extended heartfelt thanks to Ambassador Al-Qahtani and the staff of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Malé for their continued cooperation and for prioritizing the Ministry’s key initiatives. He expressed his confidence that under the Ambassador’s leadership, the existing partnership between the two countries will grow stronger, especially in the field of Islamic affairs where both nations share mutual interests and a history of close collaboration.

A key point of discussion during the meeting was the support provided by Saudi Arabia during the 2025 Hajj season.
