Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mr. Mohamed Ameen is set to represent the Maldives at the 2025 Global Transport Connectivity Forum in Istanbul, Türkiye, from 27 to 29 June 2025. Hosted by Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in collaboration with the World Bank, the three-day international summit will bring together high-level government officials, policymakers, financiers, and industry leaders to engage in high-impact discussions on enhancing global transportation networks.
Themed “Seamless Connectivity, Limitless Possibilities”, this year’s forum will delve into strategies for developing sustainable, integrated, and resilient transport corridors that transcend national boundaries. The event will feature key sessions on bridging infrastructure investment gaps, promoting regional coordination, and adopting innovative technologies – particularly those that support digital transformation and environmentally responsible systems within the transport sector.
Minister Ameen is scheduled to participate as a speaker in a panel discussion titled “Maritime Connectivity for Island and Coastal Nations: Shared Opportunities, Distinct Challenges.” This session will spotlight the specific transportation needs and development challenges of small island states such as the Maldives, while also exploring their unique opportunities in strengthening maritime infrastructure. The discussion will bring together a panel of experts to examine how island and coastal nations can improve maritime logistics, ensure climate resilience, and enhance regional trade through better sea connectivity.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation noted that Minister Ameen’s participation reflects the Maldives’ growing role in international transport policy discussions, particularly in advocating for sustainable infrastructure that supports island economies. His engagement is expected to highlight the Maldives’ strategic priorities in maritime development, especially in ensuring equitable access to transport services across the dispersed island nation.
