In a collaborative effort to deepen regional tourism partnerships and expand cultural exchange, Maldives participated in the China–Sri Lanka–Maldives Tourism Forum held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from June 10 to June 16, 2025. The forum brought together more than 100 participants, including high-level government officials, representatives from the tourism and aviation sectors, academic experts, and industry professionals from the three nations.

Representing the Maldives at the forum were senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The delegation actively engaged in strategic discussions focused on developing cultural tourism and enhancing trilateral cooperation in the tourism industry.

The forum served as a platform for industry stakeholders to build networks, exchange knowledge, and explore joint promotional opportunities. The week-long event featured a comprehensive program including seminars, keynote presentations, destination showcases, and business negotiations. Participants explored potential collaborative initiatives aimed at increasing visitor flows, improving air connectivity, and highlighting the rich cultural heritage of each country.

Key areas of discussion included cross-border tourism packages, cultural exchange programs, and initiatives to encourage sustainable and community-based tourism. Delegates emphasized the importance of promoting shared tourism values while respecting the unique identity of each participating nation.

Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment of the Maldives, the forum also received strong diplomatic backing from the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives.

The Maldives’ participation highlights its continued commitment to engaging in regional partnerships that diversify and enrich its tourism offerings. As one of the world’s leading island destinations, the Maldives views forums such as this as key to fostering meaningful collaboration, promoting cultural understanding, and sustaining long-term tourism growth across Asia.
