With more than one million tourist arrivals recorded by mid-June, Maldives continues to reinforce its reputation as a premier tropical destination by expanding its tourism infrastructure to meet growing demand. The latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment confirm that 785 new tourism beds have been added across the country so far in 2025, increasing the nation’s total operational capacity to over 64,000 beds.
The Maldives Tourism Update – Issue 19, released on June 12, 2025, reported that by the end of 2024, the country had 63,248 operational beds. That number has now risen to 64,033, with the new additions distributed across resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and safari vessels.
According to the update, the Maldives’ current tourism accommodation portfolio includes:

These accommodations are spread across 1,203 operational tourist establishments, which comprise:

This strategic increase in bed capacity aligns with a sustained rise in visitor numbers. So far this year, 1,043,082 tourists have visited the Maldives, an impressive 9.1% increase compared to 956,360 arrivals recorded during the same period in 2024. This growth underscores the enduring appeal of the Maldives as a destination of choice among global travelers.
The majority of tourists continue to favor the luxurious seclusion of Maldivian resorts, with over 700,000 visitors opting for resort stays. Guesthouses, a popular choice for budget-conscious travelers and cultural explorers, have welcomed more than 200,000 guests, while over 29,000 tourists have stayed in hotels. In addition, more than 24,000 visitors have chosen safari vessels for an adventurous experience exploring the archipelago’s crystal-clear waters.
The upward trend in tourist arrivals reflects the nation’s record-breaking year in 2024, when the Maldives welcomed 2,047,435 tourists—the highest number ever recorded in the country’s 52-year tourism history. This milestone marked the first time Maldives crossed the two million arrivals threshold in a calendar year, representing a 9% increase over the 1,878,543 tourists who visited in 2023.
Building on this success, the Maldivian government has set its sights even higher for 2025, with a target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals. The expansion of accommodation capacity is a key part of this vision, ensuring the country remains well-equipped to deliver the exceptional hospitality and world-class experiences that have come to define the Maldives.
