In a heartfelt initiative to uplift the lives of vulnerable children, Dhiraagu Plc, the Maldives’ leading telecommunications provider, has donated more than USD 14,000 to support children residing in state-run shelters across the country. The contribution is part of the company’s ongoing “Donate on Dhiraagu App” campaign, which invites the public to join hands in supporting children in need.

A total of USD 14,940 was raised through the initiative, with USD 9,728 donated directly by Dhiraagu and the remaining amount contributed by generous members of the public during the month of Ramadan. The funds were officially handed over to the Ministry of Social and Family Development at a special ceremony held at Dhiraagu headquarters on Tuesday. Present at the ceremony were Dhiraagu’s CEO and Managing Director, Ismail Rasheed, and Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, who received the donation on behalf of the ministry.

The funds will directly benefit three key state-operated children’s shelters: Fiyavathi, Amaan Veshi, and Amaan Hiyaa. These facilities fall under the care of the Family and Children’s Service Centres (FCSCs) operated by the Ministry and are dedicated to ensuring the protection, development, and wellbeing of children who are under state care. Fiyavathi serves children located in the Greater Malé Region, while Amaan Veshi and Amaan Hiyaa provide care for children from other parts of the country.

Dhiraagu emphasized that the donation will support vital programmes aimed at fostering the health, education, and overall development of these children. The initiative is part of the company’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework, which focuses on promoting social inclusion and supporting vulnerable communities throughout the Maldives.

Beyond financial assistance, Dhiraagu has also ensured that all state-run safe shelters are equipped with high-speed internet connectivity. This crucial infrastructure plays an essential role in addressing the educational needs of children in care, offering them access to digital learning resources and virtual opportunities for growth and development.

This latest contribution underscores Dhiraagu’s ongoing commitment to making a meaningful impact in the community, particularly in enhancing the lives of children in need. The company continues to invite the public to contribute through the Dhiraagu App, enabling a collaborative effort to build a more caring and supportive environment for all children in state care.
