A new chapter in upscale island hospitality is taking shape just 30 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport. Agon Capital, a forward-thinking investment firm known for its standout lifestyle and hospitality ventures in the UAE, has announced the development of Villivaru Island Resort, an exclusive private island retreat nestled within the tranquil waters of the North Malé Atoll.
In partnership with Janah International Holding (JIH), Agon Capital has launched Villivaru Holdings to oversee the creation of this extraordinary resort. Scheduled to open in early 2027, Villivaru will offer a limited collection of 61 villas and 11 private branded residences, each designed to immerse guests in nature, privacy, and contemporary elegance.
The project is being hailed as Agon Capital’s most ambitious hospitality venture to date. With a focus on blending architectural innovation with environmental sensitivity, Villivaru promises a refined yet relaxed atmosphere for discerning global travelers. From spectacular overwater villas and beachfront suites to the grand Four-Bedroom Owner’s Residence, each accommodation emphasizes exclusivity, craftsmanship, and sensory immersion. The 11 branded residences come complete with private arrival pavilions, spas, and sunset bars, blurring the lines between a private home and a luxury resort.
Dining at Villivaru will be an experience in itself. Guests can choose from ten culinary venues, including four signature restaurants and two globally recognized dining brands. Whether enjoying modern Maldivian fare in an overwater setting or gathering around an open-fire grill under the stars, the resort’s dining program is curated to satisfy culinary connoisseurs.
Beyond hospitality, Villivaru represents a strategic step in Agon Capital’s international expansion. The firm’s Hospitality division has successfully operated popular UAE destinations such as Gitano, BCH:CLB, and The Coterie. These venues are recognized for combining bold aesthetics with innovative service, a reputation that Villivaru is expected to uphold and enhance on a global stage.
Ryan Hattigh, CEO of Agon Capital, described the project as a transformative venture. “With Villivaru, we are not simply building a resort; we are creating a living, breathing experience where architecture, nature, and service converge in perfect harmony,” he said. “This project embodies everything we stand for, a bold design ethos, a deep commitment to excellence, and a belief in hospitality as a force for emotional and cultural connection.”
Chairman of Janah International Holding, Mohamed Ali Janah, emphasized the local and international collaboration at the heart of Villivaru’s vision. “This is more than a hospitality project. Villivaru Island Resort is a rare canvas for crafting the Maldives’ next flagship experience. Our partnership draws on global investment strength and generations of Maldivian expertise,” he noted.
With its curated experiences, elevated design, and seamless integration of privacy and service, Villivaru Island Resort is set to become a defining destination in the Maldives’ evolving tourism landscape, offering a new standard in barefoot luxury for travelers from around the world.
