During a recent high-level meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, held comprehensive discussions with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, focused on deepening mutual cooperation and reinforcing collective support for Palestine. The meeting, held on 07th May 2025, Wednesday, underlined the shared values and enduring commitment between the Maldives and the OIC in addressing key issues affecting the Muslim world.

Central to the talks was the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine. Both leaders highlighted the urgent need for a unified stance and sustained support from OIC member states. They stressed the moral and political responsibility to stand with the Palestinian people, particularly during this critical time, and expressed a shared determination to intensify diplomatic, humanitarian, and developmental support efforts through multilateral platforms.

In addition to the discussions on Palestine, the meeting explored broader areas of collaboration between the Maldives and the OIC. Dr. Khaleel reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to actively contributing to OIC initiatives and strengthening ties within the Islamic community through strategic cooperation in areas such as education, youth development, religious affairs, and socio-economic progress.

This engagement reflects the Maldives’ continued efforts to position itself as a proactive member within the international Islamic community while upholding its longstanding values of solidarity, peace, and shared progress. The meeting also reaffirmed the Maldives’ firm commitment to the principles of international cooperation and its readiness to support OIC-led efforts that aim to uplift and protect vulnerable populations across the Islamic world.
