The Republic of Maldives has reaffirmed its dedication to Islamic unity and global cooperation through its long-standing partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as Ambassador Ahmed Sareer officially presented his Letter of Credence to OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha. The formal ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the OIC General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Ambassador Sareer conveyed warm greetings from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and underlined the Maldives’ continued commitment to the principles and values enshrined in the OIC Charter. Highlighting the country’s dedication to causes that advance the shared interests of the Islamic world, Ambassador Sareer expressed gratitude to Secretary General Taha for his leadership in fostering unity among member states.
In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized the Maldives’ strong support for the work of the OIC across all areas, particularly its role in advocating for key concerns of the Muslim Ummah. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering stance on standing with fellow member states, including its consistent support for the Palestinian cause.
Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha welcomed Ambassador Sareer and expressed appreciation for the Maldives’ active involvement in the organization. He noted the OIC’s readiness to continue building on the longstanding cooperation with the Maldives and reiterated the organization’s commitment to the advancement of Muslim communities worldwide.
Ambassador Sareer was accompanied by Ms. Rahumathullah Waheed, Second Secretary at the Consulate of the Maldives in Jeddah, during the ceremony.
The Maldives has been a member of the OIC since 1976 and continues to play a constructive role in the organization, advocating for unity, cooperation, and mutual respect among the 57 member states. This diplomatic engagement further solidifies the Maldives’ position as a respected voice in international Islamic affairs, reinforcing its ties with key partners in the Muslim world.
