His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, Founder and Advisor at Berjaya Corporation Berhad, during his official visit to Malaysia. The courtesy call provided a valuable platform to discuss investment opportunities in the Maldives and explore avenues for strengthening economic collaboration between the Maldives and leading Malaysian businesses.

Welcoming the interest shown by Berjaya Corporation, President Dr Muizzu expressed appreciation for the company’s willingness to consider expanding its investment portfolio to the Maldives. He noted the government’s commitment to fostering an investor-friendly environment and encouraged Berjaya Corporation to participate in the Maldives’ development initiatives, particularly in high-potential sectors.
During the meeting, Tan Sri Vincent Tan provided an overview of Berjaya Corporation’s ongoing and upcoming projects, highlighting the company’s extensive experience across diverse industries. He conveyed his interest in exploring strategic opportunities within the Maldives, building on Berjaya Corporation’s international track record in business development.
President Dr Muizzu emphasized the Maldives’ thriving tourism sector as a particularly attractive area for collaboration, citing the country’s global reputation as a premier travel destination and its strong potential for high-value investment. The President reaffirmed that the Maldives remains open to trusted international partners committed to sustainable development and mutual growth. He expressed confidence that stronger collaboration with reputable international corporations like Berjaya would further support the Maldives’ vision for sustainable economic growth.
Ministers accompanying President Dr Muizzu also briefed the Berjaya Corporation team on the Maldives’ investor-friendly policies, streamlined business environment, and future development plans. They underscored the country’s robust air connectivity, well-established transport infrastructure, and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing travel and logistics services across the Maldives’ dispersed islands. Future plans to enhance inter-island air travel and transportation networks were shared, underscoring the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening logistical and infrastructural capacities across the archipelago, creating additional incentives for investment in tourism, infrastructure, real estate, and services.
Accompanying Tan Sri Vincent Tan were Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, Group Chief Executive Officer of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, and Maurice Daniel Chenn, Executive Assistant to the Founder and Advisor and Director of Business Development, both of whom expressed their enthusiasm for identifying opportunities aligned with the Maldives’ growth strategies.
