His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended an open invitation to Malaysian businesses to invest in the Maldives, outlining a vision for inclusive development and long-term prosperity during his keynote address at the Maldives–Malaysia Business Forum 2025, held on Monday in Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking to an audience of government officials, business leaders, and potential investors, President Dr Muizzu emphasized the Maldives’ strategic priorities under his administration, improving the quality of life, strengthening public institutions, and unlocking the full economic potential of the country’s dispersed island communities.
He positioned the Maldives as a dynamic and reliable partner, committed to becoming a fully developed nation by 2040, which will coincide with the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence. “This journey requires strong partnerships, ones that align with our values and bring shared benefits,” the President stated.

A key focus of the address was the Maldives’ revitalised Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which have been designed to attract future-focused investment. President Dr Muizzu highlighted the broad range of incentives available to investors and assured Malaysian businesses that the Maldives is committed to building durable, transparent, and mutually rewarding partnerships.
He also emphasized the Maldives’ unique geographical advantage, noting its position along major shipping lanes, which presents valuable prospects for investment in maritime services, port infrastructure, and regional logistics. Furthermore, the President underscored the country’s established reputation as a premier global travel destination, calling attention to promising opportunities in luxury hospitality, eco-tourism, and sustainable resort development.

“Our doors are open to those who see the Maldives not only as a destination to visit, but as a place to build and grow together,” President Dr Muizzu said, encouraging Malaysian enterprises to explore long-term ventures that align with the Maldives’ national development goals.
The Maldives–Malaysia Business Forum serves as a key platform to strengthen commercial ties between the two nations. With President Dr Muizzu’s address setting a clear direction for future cooperation, the forum is expected to catalyse new investments that contribute to both countries’ economic resilience and mutual prosperity.
As the Maldives continues to diversify its economy and deepen international partnerships, the government remains focused on creating an investor-friendly environment that also enhances the country’s appeal as a world-class destination for tourism and sustainable development.
