As part of his official visit to Malaysia, His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended an official luncheon hosted in his honour by His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. The luncheon, held on 28th April 2025, Monday at the official residence of the Malaysian Prime Minister, served as a continuation of high-level engagements between the two leaders, underscoring the strong and enduring ties between the Maldives and Malaysia.

President Dr Muizzu was joined by members of the Maldivian official delegation, while Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was accompanied by senior members of his government. The gathering reflected the cordial relationship shared by the two nations and offered an informal yet meaningful setting to reaffirm shared goals and deepen mutual understanding.

The official visit comes at a time when both countries are looking to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as tourism, healthcare, youth development, and diplomatic training. Earlier in the day, President Dr Muizzu and Prime Minister Anwar held formal discussions focused on expanding bilateral collaboration. These talks resulted in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Exchanges of Notes (EoNs), covering cooperation in key sectors including tourism, sports, health, and diplomacy.

With a large Maldivian community residing in Malaysia for education, employment, and healthcare, one of the key priorities of President Dr Muizzu’s visit is to ensure that services for Maldivians abroad are accessible and responsive to their needs. The engagements held throughout the visit reflect the Maldives’ growing emphasis on building strategic international partnerships while safeguarding the interests of its citizens abroad.

President Dr Muizzu’s participation in the official luncheon symbolised the warmth and respect shared between the two governments. The occasion further reinforced the commitment of both nations to nurturing a relationship grounded in mutual respect, cooperation, and shared development objectives.
