His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed on Sunday morning, 27th April 2025, for an official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim. This visit marks President Dr Muizzu’s inaugural official trip to Malaysia since assuming office, reflecting the enduring friendship and close cooperation between the two nations.
The visit is set to further elevate the strong bilateral relationship, with an agenda focusing on enhancing collaboration across key sectors, discussing regional and global matters, and exploring fresh opportunities for mutual growth. During the visit, President Dr Muizzu and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will hold formal discussions and oversee the signing of important Memoranda of Understanding and Exchange of Notes, laying the foundation for deeper cooperation between the Maldives and Malaysia.
Demonstrating the Maldives’ commitment to expanding economic ties, President Dr Muizzu will participate in a Business Forum organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. This forum provides an opportunity for the President to engage directly with prominent Malaysian investors, highlighting the diverse investment prospects available in the Maldives. Speaking to the media at Velana International Airport prior to his departure, President Dr Muizzu expressed optimism that the visit would open new pathways for enhanced economic collaboration and future investments.
The President’s itinerary also includes a visit to the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), where he will deliver a lecture titled “Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Development of Islamic Civilisation.” This engagement underscores the Maldives’ commitment to fostering cultural and intellectual exchanges that celebrate shared heritage and modern advancements.
Emphasizing his dedication to the Maldivian people wherever they reside, President Dr Muizzu will meet with the Maldivian community living in Malaysia. This meeting reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to address the needs and concerns of Maldivians abroad and to strengthen the support network for overseas communities.
Accompanying the President on this important official visit is a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials.
