Sheikh Dr. Salah Al-Budair, Imam of the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid al-Nabawi) in Madinah, has praised the Maldives for its commitment to strengthening Islamic values and advancing religious education. The remarks were made during his ongoing official visit to the island nation, which includes a series of high-level meetings and religious engagements.
Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair arrived in Malé earlier this week and has since participated in various official activities aimed at fostering religious cooperation and scholarly exchange. One of the highlights of his visit was a special meeting with members of the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa, where discussions focused on improving the processes for issuing fatwas and promoting religious clarity through informed Islamic jurisprudence.
The meeting was attended by leading figures from the Supreme Council, including its President Dr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim, Vice President Dr. Abdul Sattar Abdul Rahman, and members Dr. Ali Zahir bin Saeed Gasim, Dr. Ilyas Hussain, Dr. Moosa Anwar Hassan, and Secretary General Utz. Mohamed Riza. The council shared insights on the local religious landscape and ongoing efforts to address contemporary issues within a framework rooted in Islamic principles.

In addition to his formal engagements, Sheikh Al-Budair visited the Grand Friday Mosque in Malé, one of the country’s most revered places of worship and a symbol of Islamic heritage in the capital. The visit offered the Imam an opportunity to witness firsthand the religious devotion and cultural legacy preserved in the Maldives.

Sheikh Al-Budair also held a meeting with Sheikh Ismail Mohamed, a respected Maldivian Islamic scholar and the first Maldivian to receive an honorary doctorate from the Islamic University of Madinah. Their meeting underscored the strong academic and spiritual connections between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.

According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair has expressed sincere admiration for the Maldives’ efforts to nurture Islamic education and reinforce spiritual values. The Ministry emphasized that the Imam’s visit is reflective of the close relationship between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both united in their shared commitment to Islamic growth and unity.
“Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair’s support for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to enhance religious knowledge and promote national spiritual well-being has been warmly welcomed,” the Ministry stated. “His appreciation has resonated deeply with the Maldivian public, reinforcing the importance of continued investment in faith-based education and leadership.”
