In a notable demonstration of shared religious values and diplomatic friendship, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has generously donated 25,000 copies of the Holy Quran to the Republic of Maldives. The donation was formally received during a handover ceremony held at the Islamic Centre in Malé, attended by senior officials from both nations.

Representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Fahd al-Dosri, Chargé d’Affaires at the Saudi Embassy in Malé, handed over the copies to the Maldivian Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed. This contribution is intended to support Quranic education across the country, particularly in Quran learning centres, recitation programs, and memorization schools throughout Malé and the atolls.

Minister Dr. Shaheem extended his sincere appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, acknowledging their continued generosity and enduring support for the Maldivian people. He further emphasized that the donation aligns with the government’s current efforts to promote accessible religious education under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy agenda.

As part of a nationwide strategy to foster Islamic knowledge among the youth, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has been working to expand Quran learning initiatives, including free Quran lessons in islands and training centres. The donated Qurans will directly contribute to these programs, meeting the rising demand for learning materials, especially in more remote communities.

This act of generosity highlights the close and longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, rooted in shared faith and mutual respect. It also reflects the ongoing collaboration between the two nations to strengthen Islamic education and nurture the spiritual development of future generations.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the distribution of these copies to where they are most needed, supporting communities in deepening their understanding and practice of the Islamic faith.
