Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel attended the Fourth Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye. Invited by Turkish Foreign Minister H.E. Hakan Fidan, Dr. Khaleel arrived in Antalya to join high-level discussions from April 11 to 13, 2025, at the NEST Convention Centre. Themed “Reclaiming Diplomacy in a Fragmented World”, this year’s forum has gathered global leaders, policymakers, and academics to explore collective solutions to international challenges.
Representing the Maldives, Minister Khaleel contributed to a thought-provoking panel titled “Geostrategic Dynamics in the Asia-Pacific”, sharing the stage with prominent figures such as Dr. Atsushi Sunami, President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, and Professor Jagannath Panda, Head of the Stockholm Centre for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs. The session was organized in partnership with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan.
In his address, Minister Khaleel provided valuable insights into the shifting geopolitical climate of the Asia-Pacific region and outlined the pressing challenges faced by Small Island Developing States. He emphasized the escalating impacts of climate change, calling attention to the Maldives’ unique vulnerabilities and the urgent need for sustainable action. The Minister also reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to regional harmony and highlighted the essential role of diplomatic cooperation and international institutions in preserving peace and stability.

Dr. Khaleel stressed the Maldives’ strategic geographic location in the Indian Ocean and its integral role in regional security and economic connectivity. His remarks reinforced the nation’s commitment to being an active voice in international forums, advocating for meaningful partnerships and cooperative strategies to overcome shared global concerns.
By taking part in platforms like the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the Maldives continues to position itself as a proactive and responsible member of the global community, engaging in partnerships that not only elevate its presence on the world stage but also contribute to peace, sustainability, and inclusive progress.
