Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has introduced a limited series of direct flights between Velana International Airport (VIA) in Malé and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, offering enhanced travel options for both Maldivian residents and international visitors. These direct flights are scheduled for three dates 2025 April 27, 29, and 30 and will be operated using Maldivian’s Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, reflecting the airline’s growing capacity to support international connectivity.

This move supports an expanding network of personal, professional, and educational travel for Maldivians living in or commuting to Malaysia, a country that hosts a large Maldivian diaspora. The airline also aims to respond to the increasing interest among Malaysian tourists in visiting the Maldives, a destination renowned for its pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and luxury hospitality. According to the Maldives Ministry of Tourism and Environment, over 19,000 Malaysian tourists visited the Maldives in the past year alone, highlighting the route’s popularity.

The airline noted that special and seasonal flights on the Malé–Kuala Lumpur route have a precedent, suggesting a consistent demand that warrants flexible travel arrangements during key periods. These upcoming April flights are intended to cater to that demand, providing greater convenience for passengers planning their trips between the two countries.

This announcement comes as Maldivian continues to expand its international operations. The airline recently received a new wide-body aircraft in January, which has enabled it to commence flights to major cities in China, including Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai, all of which have reportedly received strong interest from travellers. Additional destinations, including routes to Thailand and Europe, are also on the airline’s development agenda, supported by the extended range and passenger capacity of the A330 aircraft.

Travellers wishing to book seats on these special Kuala Lumpur flights can do so via Maldivian’s official website or by calling the airline’s 24-hour helpline at 1671.

Flight details and updates are also available through the airline’s social media platforms. With these enhanced connections, the Maldives continues to build its profile as an accessible and welcoming destination for travellers across Asia and beyond.
