To support Maldivian student community in the United Kingdom, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially reinstated No. 9 Rosemont Avenue, London, as the designated premises of the Maldivian Students’ Association–UK (MSA-UK). The decision restores the historic role of the property as a central support hub and residence for Maldivian students living in the UK.
Originally serving as a dedicated student accommodation and gathering point for Maldivians pursuing higher education in the United Kingdom, the property was repurposed in 2019 to serve diplomatic functions under the High Commission of the Maldives in London. With this recent decision, the building will once again serve the educational and welfare needs of the student community, operating under the registration of MSA-UK.
This initiative is part of President Dr Muizzu’s broader commitment to strengthening the support system for Maldivians studying abroad. During his current visit to the UK, the President hosted a luncheon in Leeds for Maldivian students, offering a direct platform for dialogue and engagement. At the gathering, he listened to the students’ experiences and concerns, ranging from academic challenges to housing and access to support networks. The President assured students that his administration remains committed to addressing the issues raised and ensuring that Maldivians studying overseas are supported in practical and meaningful ways.
President Dr Muizzu has consistently made it a priority to meet with Maldivian communities residing in foreign countries during his international visits. These engagements not only reflect his administration’s emphasis on citizen welfare but also strengthen community bonds and encourage open communication between the government and its overseas citizens.
The reinstatement of the Rosemont Avenue property is expected to play a vital role in improving student life in the UK, providing a dedicated space for cultural exchange, community events, and mutual support among Maldivian students living far from home.
