The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, has travelled to India on an official visit to participate in the 10th edition of the prestigious Raisina Dialogue. Hosted in New Delhi from 17 to 19 March 2025, the high-profile conference serves as a leading global platform for geopolitical and strategic discussions, attracting distinguished representatives from around the world.
The Raisina Dialogue, organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in collaboration with India’s Ministry of External Affairs, will bring together over 3,500 participants from approximately 125 countries, including ministers, former heads of state and government, military officials, industry leaders, academics, journalists, and experts from prominent think tanks. This year’s conference is centered around the theme, emphasizing the interwoven challenges of sustainability, global stability, and societal transformation. Discussions will span six thematic pillars covering topics such as shifting political landscapes, trade dynamics, digital transformation, environmental policies, development strategies, and peacebuilding efforts.
As part of his engagement at the conference, Minister Dr. Khaleel will contribute to a panel discussion titled “Climate Cataclysm: The Adaptation Agenda is Gasping.” His address will highlight the urgent need for climate adaptation strategies and advocate for enhanced financial assistance to support small island nations facing climate-related threats. The Maldives, being on the front lines of climate change, has consistently used international forums like the Raisina Dialogue to amplify its concerns and push for sustainable solutions to safeguard vulnerable island communities.
In addition to his participation in the conference, Dr. Khaleel is set to hold bilateral meetings with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and other visiting foreign ministers on the sidelines of the event. These discussions are expected to reinforce diplomatic ties, promote regional cooperation, and explore collaborative efforts on climate resilience and sustainable development.
Accompanying the Foreign Minister on this visit are senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director Mr. Ahmed Suzil and Director Ms. Aishath Shahula.
