The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives) has taken a monumental step in strengthening its global tourism appeal by entering into a strategic partnership with Liverpool Football Club (LFC), positioning Maldives as the club’s Official Tourist Destination Partner. This collaboration, announced by Visit Maldives, is set to elevate the Maldives’ status as a world-class travel destination by leveraging the immense reach and influence of one of the most celebrated football clubs in the world.

The partnership, encompassing both Liverpool’s men’s and women’s teams, will serve as a powerful promotional platform, highlighting the Maldives as a premier travel destination. It will showcase the country’s breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse activities, reinforcing its reputation as the world’s leading destination for five consecutive years.

Uniting two globally renowned brands, this alliance is rooted in a shared commitment to delivering exceptional experiences—whether through the electrifying atmosphere of Anfield or the serene beauty of the Maldives. To mark the launch of this collaboration, an exclusive MyLFC competition has been announced, offering fans the chance to win a five-night trip to the Maldives, inclusive of flights and luxurious accommodations. Throughout the partnership, fans will also have access to exclusive content, special promotions, and once-in-a-lifetime prizes.

This strategic move follows a record-breaking year for the Maldivian tourism sector in 2024, with ambitious goals set to reach $5 billion in tourism receipts by 2025. By tapping into LFC’s vast digital reach—boasting over 200 million social media followers and recording nearly 12 billion views last season—Visit Maldives aims to significantly enhance its visibility among potential travellers worldwide. Additionally, with Liverpool FC’s global dominance in viewership, attracting an audience of 471 million last season, the Maldives is poised to capture the attention of a diverse and engaged audience.

Beyond promoting tourism, this partnership underscores a mutual commitment to sustainability. The Maldives, a nation at the forefront of climate change challenges, has long prioritized marine conservation and eco-friendly tourism initiatives. Through LFC’s award-winning sustainability program, The Red Way, the collaboration will actively advocate for environmental awareness and sustainable travel, aligning with the Maldives’ dedication to preserving its fragile ecosystems.

Ben Latty, Chief Commercial Officer of Liverpool FC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Visit Maldives into the Liverpool FC family. Together, we aim to create unforgettable experiences while championing sustainability and positive change.”

Echoing this sentiment, Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, saying, “Partnering with a legendary club like Liverpool FC enables us to connect with millions of passionate fans and inspire them to experience the magic of the Maldives.”

This partnership will also introduce high-value activations, including the establishment of a Liverpool Academy in the Maldives, fostering sports tourism and deepening the connection between football enthusiasts and the island nation. Additionally, prominent brand visibility at Anfield Stadium, billboards across Europe, and targeted marketing campaigns in key tourism markets will further drive visitor interest.

With a projected influx of over 100,000 additional tourists in 2025 and an estimated revenue boost of over $100 million, this partnership marks a milestone in the Maldives’ tourism marketing strategy. By combining the passion of football with the allure of the Maldives, this collaboration promises to inspire millions to embark on an unforgettable journey to the Sunny Side of Life.
