Ooredoo Maldives, in collaboration with Qatar Charity, has successfully completed the renovation of Masjid Al Sheikh Qasim bin Al-Thani, commonly known as the Hulhumalé Grand Mosque, before Ramadan. The refurbishment included the installation of a state-of-the-art air conditioning system, enhancing the comfort of worshippers and reaffirming the company’s commitment to community development.
The mosque was officially reopened in a special ceremony on February 27, 2025, attended by key dignitaries, including CEO Assistant for Programs & Community Development Sector at Qatar Charity, Faisal Rashid AlFehaida, CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, Khalid Al-Hamadi, Malé City Mayor, Adam Azim, and senior officials from the Housing Development Corporation and Ooredoo Maldives.
Originally built in 2006, the Hulhumalé Grand Mosque is a significant place of worship, accommodating over 1,800 worshippers. With the latest renovations, the mosque now offers a more comfortable and serene environment for prayer, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. The lush greenery surrounding the mosque and the elegant geometric ceiling design inside add to its tranquil ambiance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ooredoo Maldives CEO Khalid Al-Hamadi emphasized the company’s dedication to social impact, stating that Ooredoo’s vision extends beyond telecommunications to uplifting communities through meaningful projects. He highlighted that the mosque renovation aligns with their commitment to ensuring essential community spaces remain well-maintained and accessible for all. Expressing gratitude to Qatar Charity for its vital role in the initiative, he reaffirmed the importance of partnerships in driving positive change.
Qatar Charity’s CEO Assistant for Programs & Community Development Sector, Faisal Rashid AlFehaida, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the organization remains committed to supporting communities globally. He expressed hope that the mosque renovation would serve as a valuable contribution to the spiritual well-being of the people of Hulhumalé, particularly during Ramadan.
