The Maldives has reinforced its commitment to transparency, accountability and stronger international cooperation against corruption through its participation in the Third Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 27 to 28 October 2026.

The high-level meeting, organised by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan, brought together more than 250 delegates representing anti-corruption law enforcement authorities and senior officials from 46 OIC member and observer countries, together with representatives from eight international organisations. The gathering provided an important platform for member states to exchange expertise, strengthen institutional cooperation and discuss emerging approaches to preventing and combating corruption.

The Maldives was represented by Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan, President of the Anti-Corruption Commission Adam Shamil, and Controller General of Immigration Ahmed Faseeh. Their participation reflected the Government’s continued focus on strengthening governance, enhancing institutional integrity and expanding cooperation with international partners in areas related to law enforcement and anti-corruption.

Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation among law enforcement agencies, improving the exchange of information and making greater use of modern technology to prevent, detect and respond to corruption. Delegates also explored the importance of closer coordination between national institutions and international organisations in addressing increasingly complex forms of financial and administrative misconduct.

Particular attention was given to the Mecca Al-Mukarramah Convention, formulated by OIC member states in 2023 to strengthen cooperation in anti-corruption law enforcement. The meeting emphasised the importance of OIC member countries signing and ratifying the convention and effectively implementing its framework to support stronger cross-border cooperation and coordinated enforcement efforts.

The Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives said the country’s participation in the ministerial meeting would contribute to strengthening cooperation with international agencies and support ongoing national efforts to build a transparent, accountable and effective system for preventing corruption.

The Maldives’ engagement in the Baku meeting further reflects the Administration’s broader commitment to good governance and institutional reform, while strengthening the country’s participation in international initiatives designed to promote integrity, accountability and effective public administration across OIC member states.
