His Excellency Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as the Maldivian leader continues his State Visit to Pakistan.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar welcomed President Muizzu to Islamabad on his first State Visit to Pakistan, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan. The occasion reflects the longstanding friendship between the two countries and provides an important opportunity to further expand cooperation.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and the Maldivian delegation. He emphasised the importance of further strengthening and consolidating relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, highlighting the considerable potential to broaden cooperation across a range of sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The President also highlighted the shared Islamic identity of the Maldives and Pakistan as an important foundation of the close relationship between the two countries. The Maldives Government continues to place strong emphasis on strengthening partnerships with friendly nations while expanding opportunities for cooperation that support national development and enhance the country’s international engagement.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to further strengthen relations with the Maldives across key areas of mutual interest. He noted that the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries demonstrates their shared commitment to translating the longstanding friendship into deeper and more practical cooperation.
The discussions further reflected the positive momentum in Maldives–Pakistan relations as both governments work to expand engagement and identify new areas of partnership. The 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations provides added significance to President Muizzu’s visit and underscores the enduring ties between the two brotherly countries.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are undertaking the State Visit to Pakistan from 20 to 22 October 2026 at the invitation of His Excellency Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.
