As part of the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG) Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ms. Aishath Asna Hamdi, and the Maldivian delegation held discussions with IMF Executive Director Dr. Mohamed Maait on the country’s latest macroeconomic developments and economic outlook.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review key developments in the Maldivian economy and discuss priorities aimed at maintaining monetary and external stability while supporting sustainable economic growth. Discussions also focused on strengthening the country’s resilience to external shocks, an important consideration for the Maldives as a highly open island economy with strong links to global tourism, trade and international financial conditions.
The Maldivian delegation highlighted ongoing efforts to reinforce economic stability and enhance the country’s capacity to respond to changes in the global economic environment. Particular attention was given to measures supporting stronger external sector management, sustainable development and continued economic resilience.
The engagement reflects the Government’s continued focus on maintaining dialogue with international financial institutions and advancing policies that support long-term economic stability, sustainable development and greater confidence in the Maldivian economy.
The discussions were held on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, which bring together policymakers, central bank officials, development partners and financial leaders from around the world to discuss global economic challenges, financial stability and development priorities.
