Hotelier Maldives brought together senior leaders from across the country’s tourism and hospitality sector for the 10th edition of its annual General Managers Forum, held on 5 October 2026 at CROSSROADS Maldives, reinforcing the event’s role as a major platform for dialogue on the future of the Maldives’ globally recognised resort industry.
The forum attracted 189 participants, including more than 100 general managers representing resorts across the Maldives, together with hotel owners, corporate decision-makers, tourism professionals and industry suppliers. The strong participation reflected the importance the hospitality sector continues to place on collaboration, innovation and knowledge-sharing as the Maldives strengthens its position among the world’s leading luxury tourism destinations.
CROSSROADS Maldives provided a fitting hospitality environment for the milestone gathering, bringing senior resort executives and industry stakeholders together in a setting that reflects the quality, service standards and destination experiences for which Maldivian tourism is internationally renowned. Hosting the 10th edition at a major tourism destination also highlighted the central role resorts continue to play in shaping the Maldives’ economic development, international brand and future tourism strategy.
Delegates began gathering for registration and morning refreshments at 08:00, followed by the official opening and a series of presentations and discussions throughout the morning. A networking lunch provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen professional relationships, exchange experiences and explore potential partnerships, before the afternoon programme continued and concluded at 16:15.
Opening the forum, Hotelier Maldives Managing Editor Ibrahim Mahudhee reflected on the development of the event over the past decade, noting that it has grown into an important national platform for exchanging ideas and discussing the future direction of the Maldives tourism industry. He highlighted that while the country has already established a world-class benchmark in high-end hospitality, maintaining this leadership requires continued innovation, investment in human resources, adoption of modern technologies and stronger partnerships across the sector.
The 2026 forum was held under the theme “Resilience and Reinvention: Talent, Technology & Transformation”, placing particular attention on how resorts can respond effectively to changing global travel patterns, new technologies and evolving guest expectations while maintaining the distinctive warmth and personalised service that remain fundamental to Maldivian hospitality.
Artificial intelligence, data-driven decision-making and automation featured prominently in the discussions, with industry leaders examining how new technologies can improve operational efficiency, enhance guest experiences and support management teams. Participants also explored how technology can complement, rather than replace, the human element of hospitality, particularly in a destination where personal service and guest engagement remain central to the tourism experience.
Operational and regulatory developments were also discussed during the forum. Presentations by SHC Law & Tax addressed foreign exchange regulations, compliance requirements of the Maldives Monetary Authority and Tourism Goods and Services Tax considerations involving foreign tour operators. Such discussions provided resort leaders with an opportunity to examine regulatory developments and their implications for tourism businesses operating within an increasingly sophisticated and internationally connected economic environment.
The forum further explored sustainable energy solutions for island resorts, including Atoll Solar and lagoon-based floating solar technology, alongside discussions on scalable green financing. The sessions reflected the growing emphasis across the Maldives tourism sector on increasing operational efficiency, strengthening energy resilience and integrating environmentally responsible solutions into resort development and management.
Human capital remained another major focus of the programme. Discussions addressed emotional ownership among employees, workforce engagement and adaptive leadership during periods of uncertainty. Speakers and delegates considered how stronger organisational cultures, leadership development and investment in employees can support service excellence and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of Maldivian resorts.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of developing a skilled and motivated hospitality workforce as resorts increasingly adopt advanced technologies and new operational models. With tourism continuing to serve as the principal pillar of the Maldivian economy, strengthening local talent and creating opportunities for professional development remain important to the sustainable growth of the sector.
The Government of Maldives has continued to place tourism development, economic resilience, infrastructure improvement and investment facilitation among its key national priorities. The participation of private-sector tourism leaders in forums of this nature complements these national efforts by providing a platform through which industry stakeholders can identify emerging challenges, share practical solutions and support the continued evolution of the destination.
Since its launch in 2016, the Hotelier Maldives GM Forum has developed into one of the country’s principal gatherings for resort decision-makers. Over the years, it has provided senior hospitality professionals with opportunities to discuss operational priorities, emerging market trends, technology, sustainability, workforce development and strategic issues influencing the tourism sector.
The 10th edition demonstrated how the Maldives hospitality industry continues to evolve while preserving the qualities that have established the country as one of the world’s most sought-after tourism destinations. With leading general managers, resort owners, business executives and suppliers gathered at CROSSROADS Maldives, the forum reinforced the importance of collaboration between industry stakeholders as the country works to strengthen tourism competitiveness, enhance service standards and create sustainable long-term growth.
As Maldivian tourism enters its next phase of development, continued investment in people, technology, sustainability and operational excellence is expected to remain central to maintaining the destination’s strong international reputation. The 2026 Hotelier Maldives GM Forum reflected that ambition, bringing together the professionals responsible for managing some of the country’s most important tourism assets and helping shape the future of the Maldives’ world-renowned resort industry.
