The Maldives attracted strong interest from international tourism industry representatives at this year’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM), presenting the country’s distinctive island environment, premium resort experiences, rich culture and expanding tourism partnerships to one of the world’s most influential travel trade audiences.

Recognised globally for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear lagoons, vibrant marine environment and internationally acclaimed resort services, the Maldives used the major tourism platform to further strengthen its presence in key global markets. The country’s unique geography, with resorts and communities spread across individual islands, continues to distinguish the Maldives from other destinations and remains central to its appeal among travellers seeking privacy, natural beauty and highly personalised hospitality experiences.

A major highlight of the Maldives’ participation was its 517-square-metre stand, designed to offer visitors an immersive introduction to the natural character of the destination. The stand incorporated elements inspired by the Maldivian marine environment while also providing opportunities for visitors to experience aspects of local culture and sample varieties of light food commonly enjoyed in the Maldives.

Three-dimensional images and digital displays showcased the country’s islands, lagoons and tourism environment, attracting considerable attention from visitors and generating positive feedback. The presentation reflected the Maldives’ continuing efforts to strengthen destination branding while giving international travel professionals a more engaging understanding of the experiences available across the archipelago.

The Maldives’ resort sector was particularly prominent at the fair, with participating properties presenting a wide range of high-end accommodation, private-island experiences, overwater and beachfront villas, marine activities, wellness services, family experiences and personalised hospitality concepts. Maldivian resorts have continued to diversify their offerings while maintaining the privacy, natural surroundings and service standards that have established the country as one of the world’s leading luxury tourism destinations.

The resort industry also used ATM as an important platform to strengthen relationships with tour operators, travel agencies, airlines and other international partners. These business-to-business engagements are especially important for maintaining strong connectivity with established markets while creating opportunities to attract travellers from emerging markets across the Middle East and other regions.

Arabian Travel Market, now in its 32nd year, is the largest tourism trade fair held in the Middle East and brings together thousands of tourism professionals from around the world. The event provides destinations, airlines, hotels, resorts, tour operators and other tourism-related businesses with opportunities to establish partnerships, negotiate commercial arrangements and explore new areas of cooperation.

A total of 165 representatives from 74 Maldivian companies participated in this year’s fair, demonstrating the scale of the country’s tourism industry participation. Several of the participating companies have maintained a presence at ATM for nearly two decades, reflecting the importance attached by the Maldivian tourism sector to sustained engagement with Middle Eastern and international markets.

Maldivian tourism stakeholders described ATM as an important opportunity for strengthening the country’s visibility, particularly across Middle Eastern markets. Industry representatives highlighted the fair’s accessibility, strong participation from international tourism businesses and timing ahead of the peak travel season as factors that continue to make the event commercially valuable.

One operator with extensive involvement in the Maldivian resort industry described ATM as one of the most beneficial international tourism fairs for its business, apart from Travel Trade Maldives. The operator noted that participation had generated stronger results than initially expected this year despite the wider situation facing the Middle East.

The four-day event also created extensive opportunities for commercial discussions between Maldivian tourism businesses and international partners. Participants held numerous meetings aimed at strengthening existing relationships, developing new tourism packages and expanding cooperation across important source markets.

Agreements were also signed with two airlines during the fair, adding further momentum to efforts aimed at strengthening tourism connectivity. Air access remains a major factor supporting continued growth in the Maldives tourism industry, and stronger airline partnerships can help improve market access, increase visitor movement and support the expansion of tourism from both traditional and emerging markets.

The Maldives’ participation at ATM also complements the Government’s wider efforts to strengthen tourism promotion, expand international partnerships and support sustainable growth across the country’s tourism industry. Continued engagement at major international tourism fairs allows the Maldives to maintain strong visibility among global travel professionals while supporting resorts, airlines and other tourism businesses in developing new commercial opportunities.

The Government expects the business engagements, partnerships and promotional activities undertaken during this year’s Arabian Travel Market to contribute positively to the upcoming high season. With strong private-sector participation and continued destination promotion, the Maldives remains focused on consolidating its position as one of the world’s most desirable island destinations while expanding opportunities for long-term tourism growth.
