The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives) has strengthened the Maldives’ presence within the international accountancy profession after securing membership in the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), expanding the country’s engagement with professional accounting institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.
The CAPA Board formally approved CA Maldives’ membership application in September 2026, marking another step in the institute’s efforts to deepen international cooperation and strengthen professional standards within the Maldivian accountancy sector.
CAPA is recognised by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) as the regional accountancy organisation representing the Asia-Pacific region. The organisation brings together 29 professional accountancy bodies from 21 jurisdictions and provides a platform for cooperation, professional development, knowledge sharing and engagement on issues affecting the accounting profession across one of the world’s largest and most economically diverse regions.
Its membership includes prominent professional accountancy organisations representing countries and jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, South Korea and Canada. CA Maldives’ inclusion within this network provides the national institute with further opportunities to engage with international counterparts, participate in regional professional discussions and benefit from technical knowledge and institutional experience across the wider accountancy community.
The CAPA membership also strengthens the international positioning of the Maldives’ accounting profession at a time when the country continues to expand its financial, corporate and regulatory sectors. Greater engagement with international professional organisations can support the exchange of expertise, promote internationally recognised practices and contribute towards developing skilled accounting and finance professionals capable of meeting the requirements of an increasingly interconnected global economy.
CA Maldives is already a full member of IFAC, the global organisation for the accountancy profession representing more than 188 professional organisations across over 143 jurisdictions. Its membership in IFAC connects Maldivian accounting professionals with an extensive global network focused on strengthening the profession, supporting high-quality professional standards and promoting confidence in financial reporting and financial management.
In addition to its membership in IFAC and CAPA, CA Maldives participates in several regional technical and policy platforms. The institute is a member of the Asian-Oceanian Standard-Setters Group (AOSSG), which brings together accounting standard-setting organisations from across the region to discuss and contribute towards international financial reporting developments.
CA Maldives is also a member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), providing the institute with another important platform for professional collaboration with accounting bodies across South Asia. Through these regional networks, the institute is able to engage in discussions on accounting standards, professional education, institutional development and emerging issues affecting the profession.
The institute has additionally established a number of memoranda of understanding and collaborative partnerships with professional accountancy organisations around the world. These relationships have supported greater institutional cooperation and created avenues for professional knowledge exchange, technical engagement and capacity development.
According to CA Maldives, its growing network of international partnerships forms part of its continuing efforts to enhance global collaboration, strengthen professional connections and further develop the domestic accountancy profession.
The expansion of CA Maldives’ international affiliations also complements the Maldives’ broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, professional expertise and internationally aligned practices across its financial and corporate sectors. Developing a strong professional accounting community is particularly important as the country’s economy continues to expand across tourism, banking, infrastructure, investment and other key industries that depend on transparent financial management, sound reporting and qualified professionals.
With membership in CAPA now added to its existing international and regional affiliations, CA Maldives is positioned to participate more extensively in professional exchanges across Asia and the Pacific while increasing opportunities for the Maldivian accountancy community to remain connected with developments in international standards, professional education and industry practices.
The institute’s expanding global network is expected to support the continued development of accounting professionals in the Maldives and strengthen the country’s representation within regional and international professional forums.
