Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has partnered with Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives Private Limited as the official insurance partner for the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026, strengthening preparations for one of the region’s prominent travel and tourism industry events to be hosted in the Maldives.

The sponsorship agreement was signed by Visit Maldives Corporation Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Abdulla Yasir and Allied Insurance Chief Commercial Officer Suran De Silva, bringing together the country’s national tourism promotion organisation and one of the Maldives’ established insurance service providers in support of the international event.

Under the partnership, Allied Insurance will receive visibility across selected marketing materials, digital platforms and promotional communications associated with the World Travel Awards ceremony. The collaboration will also contribute to the broader effort to engage leading Maldivian companies in the delivery and promotion of a major international tourism event taking place in the country.

VMC said the partnership reflects the important role of private-sector participation in supporting the successful organisation of the awards. The ceremony is expected to bring together representatives of leading destinations, tourism organisations, hospitality groups, travel companies and other industry stakeholders from across Asia, Oceania and the Indian Ocean.

The World Travel Awards is internationally recognised for celebrating achievements across the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, with its regional ceremonies bringing together prominent names from across the sector. Hosting the Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026 ceremony provides the Maldives with an important international platform to further present its tourism industry, hospitality standards and destination experiences to a global audience.

The Maldives has built a strong international reputation for its distinctive resort tourism model, combining private-island hospitality, high-quality accommodation, marine experiences and personalised services. Resorts remain at the centre of the country’s tourism offering, supported by a growing network of guesthouses, hotels, liveaboards and tourism-related businesses that together contribute significantly to employment, investment and economic activity across the country.

Hosting the World Travel Awards will provide additional exposure for the Maldives’ resort and hospitality sector, allowing international travel industry representatives and partners to experience the destination’s service standards and tourism infrastructure firsthand. The event is also expected to create opportunities for Maldivian tourism businesses to strengthen professional relationships with international operators, travel organisations and hospitality industry decision-makers.

The ceremony comes as the Government continues efforts to strengthen the Maldives’ position in the global tourism market through destination promotion, expanded international partnerships, improved connectivity and continued support for tourism investment. International events hosted in the country also contribute to showcasing the Maldives not only as a leading leisure destination, but as a capable host for major tourism, business and industry gatherings.

VMC said hosting the World Travel Awards will help strengthen industry connections while increasing the international visibility of the Maldives’ tourism sector. The event is expected to place the country at the centre of regional tourism industry attention and provide another opportunity to highlight the strength, diversity and continued development of the Maldivian tourism product.

The partnership with Allied Insurance forms part of VMC’s ongoing preparations to bring together local and international partners for the upcoming ceremony. By involving prominent Maldivian businesses in the event, VMC is also strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors in promoting the country internationally and supporting major tourism initiatives.

With preparations progressing for the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026, the Maldives is set to welcome tourism leaders and industry stakeholders from across the region, further reinforcing the country’s international standing as one of the world’s most recognised and sought-after tourism destinations.
