Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has partnered with Ooredoo Maldives as the Official Digital Partner for the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026, strengthening preparations for one of the international travel and tourism industry’s most prominent recognition events to be hosted in the Maldives.

The partnership agreement was signed by Visit Maldives Corporation Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree and Ooredoo Maldives Chief Business Officer Rajesh Mehta. The collaboration brings together the Maldives’ national tourism promotion organisation and one of the country’s leading telecommunications companies to support the digital and connectivity requirements of the prestigious international ceremony.

Under the partnership, Ooredoo Maldives will utilise its digital infrastructure, communications capabilities and technology expertise to support the successful delivery of the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026. Reliable connectivity and digital services are expected to play an important role in supporting delegates, tourism industry representatives, hospitality professionals and international media attending the event.

Ooredoo Business has established itself as a technology partner for businesses across the Maldives, providing ICT solutions designed to meet the requirements of the country’s expanding tourism and hospitality sector. Its portfolio includes managed services, hosted solutions, enterprise connectivity and advanced data centre services, supporting tourism businesses and other enterprises in strengthening operational efficiency and enhancing digital service delivery.

The collaboration also reflects the growing importance of technology within the Maldivian tourism industry, where resorts and hospitality businesses increasingly rely on high-quality connectivity and digital infrastructure to support guest services, property operations, communications, reservations, business management and engagement with international markets. With tourism properties distributed across islands and atolls throughout the country, dependable digital services have become an important component of maintaining the high standards associated with the Maldives’ hospitality sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, VMC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree highlighted the importance of collaboration and reliable institutional support in organising an international event of this scale. He said Visit Maldives was pleased to partner with Ooredoo Maldives and looked forward to working together to provide a memorable experience for delegates, industry partners and members of the media attending the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026.

Ooredoo Maldives Chief Business Officer Rajesh Mehta said the company was proud to support Visit Maldives as the event’s Digital Partner. He highlighted the Maldives’ continued position as a benchmark for international tourism and reaffirmed Ooredoo Maldives’ commitment to supporting the industry through advanced connectivity and innovative technology solutions. He also noted the company’s role in supporting hospitality brands and enterprises in delivering high-quality guest experiences and creating opportunities for further business growth.

The World Travel Awards is internationally recognised for acknowledging excellence across the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors. Its regional ceremonies bring together leading destinations, tourism organisations, hotels, resorts, airlines, travel companies and other major industry stakeholders, providing a prominent platform for recognising service quality, destination development and achievements across the sector.

Hosting the Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026 ceremony in the Maldives will provide the country with an important opportunity to present its tourism industry and world-renowned hospitality offering directly to influential international stakeholders. The Maldives is recognised globally for its distinctive island resort model, high-end hospitality, natural environment and extensive range of tourism experiences, supported by continued investment in resort development, infrastructure, connectivity and service standards.

The event is also expected to provide additional international exposure for the country’s resort and hospitality sector, allowing industry representatives visiting the Maldives to experience the destination’s tourism product first-hand. Maldivian resorts have continued to develop increasingly sophisticated accommodation, dining, recreation, family, wellness and personalised hospitality offerings while maintaining the privacy and natural surroundings that distinguish the destination in the international tourism market.

The Government’s continued emphasis on strengthening tourism promotion, improving national infrastructure and expanding international engagement has supported efforts to maintain the Maldives’ competitiveness as a leading global destination. Hosting internationally recognised tourism events further complements these efforts by bringing industry leaders, businesses and media representatives directly to the country and creating opportunities for new professional partnerships and wider destination exposure.

The partnership between Visit Maldives and Ooredoo Maldives further supports VMC’s efforts to attract and host internationally significant tourism events, strengthen engagement with global industry partners and expand the visibility of the Maldives across key source markets. It also demonstrates the contribution of Maldivian private-sector partners in supporting national tourism initiatives through technology, expertise and infrastructure.

With the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean 2026 bringing prominent travel and hospitality stakeholders to the country, the event is expected to further reinforce the Maldives’ international profile, showcase the strength and diversity of its resort sector and underline the country’s continued position among the world’s leading tourism destinations.
