President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to further strengthening its longstanding partnership with Singapore, expressing his readiness to work closely with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to advance shared aspirations for peace, stability, sustainable development and greater bilateral cooperation.
The President conveyed the message in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on the occasion of Singapore’s National Day, highlighting the importance the Government of Maldives attaches to the close and friendly relations between the two countries. He expressed confidence that continued engagement between the Maldives and Singapore would create further opportunities to deepen cooperation and contribute positively to the development priorities of both nations.
President Muizzu noted that relations between the Maldives and Singapore have continued to flourish through cooperation across several important areas, including trade, investment, education, capacity building and people-to-people exchanges. These areas of engagement have contributed to strengthening institutional and economic links between the two countries while providing a strong foundation for expanding future cooperation.
The President’s message reflects the Government’s broader commitment to strengthening international partnerships that support the Maldives’ economic and social development objectives. Singapore’s experience in areas such as economic development, innovation, human capital advancement and institutional capacity provides significant scope for continued engagement as the Maldives pursues sustainable growth and greater international economic cooperation.
In a separate letter addressed to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President Muizzu extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives to the President, Government and people of Singapore on the occasion of the country’s National Day.
President Muizzu expressed his hope that Singapore would continue to prosper and serve as a beacon of hope and innovation in the region. He emphasised that the Maldives highly values its enduring friendship with Singapore, describing the relationship as one founded on mutual respect, trust and a shared commitment to regional peace and prosperity.
The longstanding ties between the Maldives and Singapore have developed through sustained diplomatic engagement and practical cooperation, with both countries sharing an interest in promoting stability, economic opportunity and sustainable development. Continued collaboration in trade, investment, education and capacity development is expected to further strengthen the relationship while opening new opportunities for businesses, institutions and communities in both countries.
President Muizzu also conveyed his best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Singapore.
The President reiterated these sentiments through a message published on his official X account, further underscoring the Maldives’ appreciation of its friendship with Singapore and the Government’s commitment to advancing mutually beneficial relations between the two nations.
