The Business Center Corporation (BCC) has launched BizConnect, a new business engagement initiative designed to strengthen connections between the corporation’s regional business centers and entrepreneurs operating across island economies. The initiative reflects BCC’s continued efforts to deepen engagement with businesses at the community level and to provide more responsive support to enterprises seeking to grow in a dynamic and evolving economic environment.

According to BCC, the first BizConnect visit focused on businesses operating in the Creative and Digital Economy sector, an area that continues to gain importance as innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship create new opportunities for economic participation and diversification. Through this initial engagement, the corporation sought to better understand the practical challenges faced by businesses in the sector, while also identifying ways to support them in advancing to their next stage of development. The initiative is expected to create a more direct and structured platform for dialogue between entrepreneurs and business support institutions, allowing businesses to share their experiences, identify constraints, and access guidance more effectively.

BCC stated that BizConnect will be carried forward through regular Business Vital Checks, which are intended to provide businesses with mentorship and continuous follow-up support. This approach signals an emphasis on long-term engagement rather than one-time interventions, with the aim of helping enterprises improve resilience, strengthen operations, and pursue sustainable growth. By introducing a system of regular check-ins, BCC is placing focus on practical business development support that can respond to the real needs of entrepreneurs across different local markets and sectors.

The launch of BizConnect also reflects the growing importance of tailored support mechanisms for businesses operating in geographically dispersed island communities. Entrepreneurs in such settings often navigate unique challenges related to scale, market access, connectivity, and capacity development. In this context, initiatives such as BizConnect can play an important role in bringing institutional support closer to businesses, improving access to guidance, and ensuring that entrepreneurial talent in regional areas is recognized and nurtured. The focus on the Creative and Digital Economy in the first round of visits further highlights the value of supporting emerging sectors that can generate employment, encourage innovation, and expand economic opportunity beyond traditional industries.

Established in 2017 under a presidential decree, BCC serves as the legal vehicle for operating the country’s regional Business Centers, which were created under the SME Act of 2013. The corporation is also the implementing body for MSME development projects initiated by the Ministry of Economic Development. Over the years, BCC has positioned itself as a central institution in promoting enterprise development and expanding access to business support services across the country. Its work has been aligned with broader national goals of strengthening the micro, small, and medium enterprise sector and encouraging inclusive economic participation.

BCC has stated that its objective is to build an enabling and inclusive business environment for micro, small, and medium enterprises through support mechanisms that help small businesses sustain, scale, and grow. The corporation has also previously highlighted its contribution to the National Microeconomic Policy throughout various stages of implementation, while playing a role in decentralizing public services through its regional business centers. BizConnect appears to build on this foundation by reinforcing direct engagement with entrepreneurs and enhancing the practical delivery of business development support in island communities.

Although BCC has not yet specified which islands or businesses were included in the first BizConnect visit, nor how frequently the Business Vital Checks will be conducted, the introduction of the initiative signals a constructive step in strengthening enterprise support systems. For entrepreneurs and business communities, the initiative presents an encouraging opportunity for closer collaboration with regional business centers and for accessing mentorship that is aligned with their growth ambitions. As businesses continue to adapt to new market realities and pursue innovation-led opportunities, initiatives such as BizConnect are expected to contribute positively to the development of a more connected, inclusive, and forward-looking business ecosystem.
