Minister of Defence and National Service Hassan Rasheed has held high-level discussions in Saudi Arabia focused on advancing bilateral relations and strengthening defence cooperation between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meetings formed part of the Minister’s official visit and reflected the close and growing ties between the two friendly nations.

During a meeting in Jeddah with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defense, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, both sides reviewed the longstanding bilateral relationship and discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in the field of defence. The talks also covered a number of issues of mutual interest, highlighting the shared commitment of both countries to deepen engagement and broaden collaboration in areas that contribute to regional peace and long-term stability.

The discussions additionally addressed the latest regional and international developments, with both sides exchanging views on current security matters and the importance of coordinated efforts to promote stability in the region. The meeting underscored the value placed by both the Maldives and Saudi Arabia on dialogue, partnership and constructive cooperation in responding to evolving security challenges.

As part of the official visit, Minister Hassan Rasheed also met Abdullah bin Hamid Al-Quraishi, Deputy Military Commander of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism initiatives, expanding joint military exercises and enhancing technical capabilities between the two sides. These discussions reflected a shared interest in building stronger institutional cooperation and developing practical areas of partnership in the defence and security sectors.

The visit highlights the Maldives’ continued engagement with international partners to reinforce national defence capacity, support regional security cooperation and foster meaningful bilateral partnerships. It also reflects the importance of sustained diplomatic and defence dialogue between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, as both countries work to advance common interests and contribute to a more secure and stable regional environment.
