Maldives Airports Company Limited has introduced a new digital Harbour Portal as part of its continuing efforts to modernise harbour operations and establish a more structured, efficient and transparent process for vessel access. The new platform has been developed to enhance the management of harbour activities by creating a centralised system that supports vessel registration, harbour coordination and communication among key stakeholders, including MACL, vessel owners, operators, crew members and other relevant parties involved in daily harbour operations.
The introduction of the portal reflects MACL’s broader commitment to improving operational standards and supporting a more organised maritime service environment. By bringing vessel-related processes into a digital system, the company aims to maintain clearer and more reliable records of harbour users, while also strengthening oversight and service delivery. The platform is expected to contribute to smoother coordination, faster processing and more consistent management of vessel movements, helping to create a more dependable experience for all harbour users.
MACL has stated that the Harbour Portal will be introduced in phases in order to allow sufficient time for users to become familiar with the new system and adapt to the updated process with minimal disruption. The first phase will focus on vessel registration and awareness, with the company already conducting information sessions for vessel owners and engaging directly with vessel crews to explain the system and guide them through the registration process. This gradual approach is intended to support a smooth transition while ensuring that users are well informed and prepared for the next stages of implementation.
The vessel registration phase will continue until July, after which vessels using the harbour will be required to be registered and hold a valid permit. MACL has noted that further information regarding permit procedures and any applicable requirements will be communicated through official channels before the next phase comes into effect. This step is expected to help establish a more accountable and orderly framework for harbour access, while ensuring that all users follow a standardised process.
Once the portal becomes fully operational, vessels will be required to complete registration, obtain a valid permit and submit harbour usage requests through the system for approval before accessing harbour services. This digital process is expected to improve transparency in harbour management and support more effective planning and coordination of vessel activity. It will also allow MACL to manage harbour access in a more systematic manner, contributing to long-term efficiency and stronger operational control.
The phased rollout of the Harbour Portal highlights MACL’s focus on practical digital transformation and service improvement.
