Sun Siyam Vilu Reef has officially introduced its new Ocean Signature Villas with Pool and Slide, presenting the most extensive enhancement undertaken by the resort in recent years and opening a fresh chapter for one of the Maldives’ best-known island destinations. The new villas were unveiled during the exclusive “A New Rhythm of the Reef” event held on 15 June, attended by media representatives, industry partners and invited guests. The unveiling was led by Sun Siyam Founder, Chairman and Managing Director Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, who presented the resort’s newest collection of luxury overwater accommodation.
The development features 50 newly built overwater villas, comprising 48 one-bedroom villas and two two-bedroom residences, all introduced under the Ocean Signature Villas with Pool and Slide category. The project represents the resort’s most ambitious villa transformation to date, bringing together contemporary design, enhanced comfort and the warm Maldivian hospitality that has long defined the Sun Siyam experience. With this addition, Sun Siyam Vilu Reef further strengthens its appeal as a resort that continues to evolve while preserving the distinctive character and natural beauty that have made it a favourite among travellers.
Set above the turquoise lagoon, the new villas have been designed to offer sweeping ocean views and a highly immersive island experience for both couples and families. Each villa includes a private pool, spacious sun deck, overwater hammock, integrated pantry and an open-plan bathroom fitted with a freestanding bathtub and dual vanities. A standout feature of the accommodation is the 11-metre water slide that offers direct access to the lagoon, adding a playful and memorable dimension to the stay experience while complementing the sense of privacy and exclusivity associated with overwater living in the Maldives.
Speaking at the launch, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed highlighted the deep significance of the development for the resort and for the wider Sun Siyam brand. He noted that Sun Siyam Vilu Reef is where the Sun Siyam story began, making the occasion particularly meaningful for the company. He further stated that, as the resort enters a new phase, the group remains focused on creating exceptional guest experiences while staying true to the warmth and hospitality that have always been central to its identity.
To bring the project to life, Sun Siyam partnered with London-based interior design firm Studio Sixty7, led by founders and creative directors Lee McNichol and Jose Rivero. The design concept draws inspiration from the surrounding marine environment, with natural materials, sculpted forms and a refined colour palette carefully selected to reflect the calm and beauty of the Maldives. The result is a design language that feels contemporary yet deeply connected to its setting, allowing guests to experience a sense of luxury that is both sophisticated and authentically island-inspired.
According to the designers, the interiors were created to balance minimalist elegance with bold architectural expression. The villas feature white timber-panelled walls, deep blue ceilings, bespoke timber joinery and locally produced artwork, all of which contribute to a strong sense of place. Studio Sixty7 described the concept as a refined and immersive escape that combines tranquillity with individuality, creating interiors that are visually distinctive while remaining restful and highly functional for modern travellers.
Masdhooq Saeed, Cluster General Manager of Sun Siyam Vilu Reef and Sun Siyam Iru Veli, said the villas represent a distinctive addition to the Maldives’ luxury hospitality landscape. He explained that the goal was to create something beyond exceptional through collaboration with award-winning creative talent, resulting in a collection of overwater signature villas with a fully renewed soul and appearance. He added that each villa has been meticulously designed to serve as an immersive sanctuary where innovative design meets the timeless beauty of the surrounding ocean.
The unveiling of the Ocean Signature Villas also reinforces Sun Siyam Vilu Reef’s place within the group’s Privé Collection and reflects the company’s continued investment in enhancing the guest journey across its properties. Located on the private island of Meedhuffushi in South Nilandhe Atoll, the resort remains one of the flagship destinations in the Sun Siyam portfolio and an important part of the group’s hospitality heritage. Known for its natural setting, turquoise waters, vibrant marine life and intimate island atmosphere, the resort continues to attract guests seeking both relaxation and a meaningful connection to the Maldives.
With the introduction of these new villas, Sun Siyam Vilu Reef is offering a contemporary interpretation of luxury island living that remains rooted in the authentic Maldivian spirit that has defined the resort since its beginnings. The latest development not only enhances the resort’s accommodation offering, but also highlights the continued confidence of Maldivian hospitality brands in investing in quality, design excellence and guest-centred experiences that resonate with travellers from around the world.
