His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have arrived in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on a State Visit, marking an important diplomatic engagement that reflects the close and enduring relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. The visit is taking place at the invitation of His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of Sri Lanka, and is scheduled from 3 to 6 May 2026.

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, President Dr Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed were warmly received by the Honourable Dr Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. A welcome ceremony was held in their honour at the airport, featuring a cultural performance by a local troupe that highlighted Sri Lanka’s rich heritage and traditions. Following the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu signed the official guest book, marking the formal commencement of the State Visit.

The visit reflects the importance both countries place on maintaining strong bilateral engagement and fostering deeper cooperation across areas of mutual interest. As close neighbours in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives and Sri Lanka share longstanding ties rooted in friendship, regional understanding, and extensive people-to-people connections.
