Angsana Velavaru has reopened its futsal facility as part of its continued efforts to strengthen guest experiences and foster a vibrant culture of wellbeing, teamwork and community engagement through sport. The reopening reflects the resort’s broader vision of offering enriching lifestyle experiences that combine leisure, recreation and meaningful interaction for both guests and associates in one of the Maldives’ most distinctive island settings.

The reopening ceremony was officiated by Dhaalu Atoll Council President Ahmed Shafiu together with Angsana Velavaru General Manager Ahmed Zahir, who jointly cut the ribbon to mark the occasion. The event highlighted the importance of collaborative community ties and underlined the resort’s commitment to creating spaces that support both hospitality excellence and positive social engagement within the island environment.

Situated within the resort grounds, the futsal court measures 57 metres by 38 metres and has been designed to serve as a dynamic venue for recreation, organised sporting activities and interactive experiences for guests and resort associates. The facility is expected to become an integral part of the resort’s wider recreational portfolio, supporting a variety of activities that encourage active living, connection and enjoyment in a relaxed tropical setting.

Angsana Velavaru stated that the futsal facility will also play a broader role in its guest and staff programming through workshops and expert-led collaborations that provide sports-based experiences while encouraging learning, skill development and social interaction. The initiative also reflects the resort’s focus on staff wellbeing and team spirit, reinforcing a workplace culture that values health, cooperation and engagement alongside high standards of service delivery.

The opening celebrations featured friendly matches between the Angsana Velavaru men’s and women’s teams, bringing added energy and a strong sense of unity to the occasion. The programme also included an inter-resort match between the Angsana Velavaru Orange Army and Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, further highlighting the role of sport as a platform for camaraderie, friendly competition and stronger connections across resort communities.

Adjacent to the futsal court, the resort has also upgraded its watersports centre, which now includes improved guest amenities such as shower and changing facilities. The enhancements further strengthen Angsana Velavaru’s recreational offerings and support the resort’s ongoing efforts to provide guests with greater comfort, convenience and access to diverse leisure experiences during their stay.

Speaking on the occasion, General Manager Ahmed Zahir said the reopening of the futsal ground represents more than a recreational enhancement and reflects the resort’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences for both guests and associates. He noted that the facility will support active living, wellbeing and connection, while also serving as a valuable space for learning and collaboration.

Located in South Nilandhe Atoll, Angsana Velavaru continues to be recognised for delivering experiences that blend island hospitality with thoughtful lifestyle offerings. The reopening of the futsal facility forms part of the resort’s wider efforts to expand its community-focused and guest-centred experiences, further enhancing its appeal as a destination that values wellness, engagement and memorable moments in the Maldives.
