Marriott International in the Maldives has concluded its first China Roadshow, engaging 106 travel agents across Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen as part of a focused initiative to strengthen industry partnerships and enhance engagement with one of the world’s most influential outbound tourism markets. The programme brought together travel professionals and tourism stakeholders through a series of meetings and presentations that highlighted the Maldives as a leading global luxury destination while presenting Marriott International’s diverse collection of resorts located across the archipelago.
The roadshow was organised to deepen collaboration with travel trade partners while showcasing the extensive portfolio of Marriott International resorts in the Maldives. During the sessions, participating travel agents received comprehensive updates on the guest experiences available across the properties, including wellness and spa programmes designed around holistic island relaxation, distinctive dining concepts that combine international cuisine with local influences, and marine and nature-based excursions that allow guests to explore the Maldives’ vibrant coral reefs and turquoise lagoons. The presentations also emphasised the wide range of accommodation options available within the portfolio, from signature overwater villas suspended above clear lagoons to secluded beachfront villas surrounded by tropical greenery. These experiences reflect the natural beauty and tranquil environment of the Maldives, which continues to attract travellers seeking visually striking landscapes and immersive island experiences.
Direct engagement with travel agents in Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen provided Marriott International with an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with key industry partners while supporting commercial growth and long-term collaboration in the Chinese market. The participating agents were introduced to new product developments, promotional initiatives and partnership opportunities designed to facilitate bookings and improve the overall engagement between travel professionals and travellers interested in visiting the Maldives. The initiative also enabled industry representatives to exchange insights on traveller preferences and evolving travel trends, further supporting the Maldives’ position as a preferred destination for luxury leisure travel.
The roadshow coincided with the launch of a dedicated China destination sales team that will support the continued development of Marriott International’s presence in the Chinese travel market. The team is led by Emily Zhou and is supported by account directors Fiona Wang, Jiang Qing Deng, Shenglan Huang and Zhang Hanrui. Their work will focus on strengthening partnerships with travel agents, identifying new opportunities for collaboration and ensuring more coordinated engagement with travel professionals across the region. Through closer coordination with travel partners, the team aims to support business development and expand awareness of the Maldives as a premium travel destination among Chinese travellers.
Commenting on the initiative, Peter Foreman noted that the roadshow reflects Marriott International’s continued engagement with the Greater China market and its emphasis on maintaining strong working relationships with travel trade partners. He explained that the newly established China destination sales team will provide more targeted support for travel partners while enabling closer collaboration and expanding opportunities for business growth in the market.
