Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) is preparing to reinforce the Maldives’ international tourism presence at ITB Berlin 2026, with the return of the highly anticipated Maldivian Night alongside a dedicated international press conference, as part of the country’s strategic preparations leading toward Visit Maldives Year 2027. The globally renowned travel trade exhibition will be held from March 3 to 5 at Messe Berlin, bringing together tourism leaders, destination marketers, airlines, hospitality brands, and travel professionals from around the world.

The Maldives will once again present a strong national showcase at ITB Berlin through its vibrant pavilion under the established destination brand “Maldives… The Sunny Side of Life,” highlighting the nation’s continued evolution as a premium travel destination known for natural beauty, high-end hospitality, and sustainable tourism practices. With extensive participation from industry stakeholders, the pavilion is expected to facilitate meaningful business-to-business engagement, strengthen long-standing partnerships, and create new commercial opportunities aimed at supporting steady and sustainable growth in visitor arrivals.

A major highlight of this year’s participation is the revival of Maldivian Night, an exclusive, invitation-only gathering designed to celebrate the unique character of Maldivian hospitality and culture while strengthening relationships across the global travel ecosystem. The event will bring together leading tour operators, airline partners, international media, travel trade executives, and key tourism stakeholders in an immersive setting that reflects the warmth, authenticity, and innovation of the Maldives tourism experience. The evening will showcase elements inspired by the country’s renowned resort lifestyle, where privacy, personalized service, and seamless luxury define the guest journey. From world-class culinary traditions influenced by the ocean and island heritage to contemporary hospitality concepts shaped by sustainability and innovation, the event aims to communicate how Maldivian resorts continue to evolve to meet the expectations of modern global travelers seeking meaningful and transformative travel experiences.

Co-hosted in partnership with Bank of Maldives (BML), the event will also serve as the international introduction platform for BML Swipe, an advanced digital payment solution designed to enhance convenience and efficiency across the islands. The introduction of this technology highlights the Maldives’ ongoing investment in digital infrastructure that supports both visitors and tourism operators, enabling smoother transactions and reinforcing the country’s reputation as a technologically progressive destination while maintaining its signature luxury appeal.

Alongside the celebratory engagement, Visit Maldives will host a high-level international press conference during ITB Berlin 2026, where a major announcement will be presented to the global travel industry. Although specific details remain confidential, the announcement is expected to represent an important development within the Maldives’ long-term tourism strategy and signal the next phase of its international positioning beyond the Visit Maldives Year 2027 campaign. The initiative reflects a forward-looking approach that integrates destination branding, innovation, and sustainable growth into a cohesive global tourism vision.

According to Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, ITB Berlin remains a central platform within the destination’s global marketing strategy. He noted that the return of Maldivian Night together with the international press conference demonstrates renewed confidence and ambition within the Maldives tourism sector, emphasizing both the celebration of global partnerships and the sharing of a future-oriented vision for the industry.

European markets, particularly German-speaking countries, continue to play a crucial role in sustaining Maldives tourism performance. In 2025, Germany ranked among the top source markets with 167,822 visitor arrivals, while Switzerland and Austria maintained strong positions within the top fifteen markets. Visit Maldives continues to align promotional campaigns with evolving European traveler preferences, placing emphasis on diving experiences, wellness retreats, family-oriented travel, and environmentally responsible tourism initiatives that resonate strongly with visitors seeking authentic and sustainable holiday experiences.

Through its expanded participation at ITB Berlin 2026, Visit Maldives aims to further elevate global visibility, deepen strategic collaborations, and reinforce the Maldives’ standing as a safe, sustainable, and forward-looking destination offering world-class resort experiences. The engagement reflects continued confidence in the resilience and adaptability of the Maldives tourism industry as it advances toward a new phase of international growth and innovation.
