Ooredoo Maldives has been recognised as the Best Fixed Network in the Maldives for the second half of 2025, becoming the first telecommunications provider in the country to receive the Ookla Speedtest Award for fixed network performance. The recognition reflects the company’s continued investment in broadband infrastructure and its efforts to enhance digital connectivity across the geographically dispersed island nation, reinforcing the Maldives’ position as a digitally connected destination for residents, businesses, and international visitors.

The award was issued by global network intelligence firm Ookla and is based on consumer-initiated Speedtest data collected during the evaluation period. The assessment relies on a comprehensive Speed Score derived from download and upload speeds as well as network responsiveness, offering an objective measurement of how customers experience broadband performance under real-world conditions. This methodology captures everyday usage patterns across households and commercial environments, providing a reliable indicator of service quality from the user perspective.

For Ooredoo Maldives, the recognition highlights strong performance in the fixed broadband segment at a time when dependable high-speed connectivity has become essential to economic and social development. Fibre broadband infrastructure, advanced home connectivity solutions, and improved network responsiveness have increasingly shaped customer expectations, particularly in a country where islands are spread across vast ocean distances. Delivering consistent service quality across such terrain requires significant technological planning and investment, and the award reflects the company’s ability to maintain performance standards despite logistical and geographic challenges.

In a statement, Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, Shadi Qawasmi, noted that the recognition represents an important achievement for the company, emphasising that the network has been designed to address the Maldives’ unique geographic realities while supporting communities and businesses through reliable digital services. He highlighted the company’s commitment to strengthening connectivity that enables innovation, productivity, and inclusive access to technology nationwide.

The recognition also carries broader significance as the Maldives continues to advance its digitalisation agenda. Reliable fixed broadband plays a central role in supporting remote work, online education, financial technology platforms, enterprise operations, and government digital services. Within the tourism sector, which remains a key pillar of the Maldivian economy, high-performance connectivity has become increasingly vital for resort operations, guest experiences, and smart hospitality services. Modern resorts rely heavily on stable high-speed internet to power booking systems, cloud-based management platforms, digital guest services, entertainment streaming, and seamless communication between islands and international markets. Enhanced broadband performance allows resorts to deliver premium digital experiences expected by global travellers, strengthening the country’s competitiveness as a technologically advanced luxury destination while supporting operational efficiency behind the scenes.

Recognition from an independent global benchmarking organisation such as Ookla also contributes to shaping consumer confidence and market competition within the domestic telecommunications sector. As businesses and households continue to prioritise connectivity reliability, performance-based awards grounded in real user data provide an important benchmark for service providers and customers alike.

The award is based on Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data collected during the second half of 2025, reflecting measured network performance experienced by users across the Maldives during the period.
