Rukuri, a purpose-built digital recruitment platform for the hospitality and tourism industry, has been launched with the objective of enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in recruitment across the Maldives, according to its founders. Developed in response to the increasing professionalisation of the country’s tourism sector and the growing need for a more structured and integrated hiring process, the platform brings job opportunities, applications, and employer–candidate communication into a single digital environment tailored specifically for hospitality businesses and professionals. Founded in 2023 by Island Recruits, Rukuri is positioned as a long-term solution to support the evolving workforce needs of one of the world’s most renowned tourism destinations.

Designed primarily for resorts, guesthouses, restaurants, and tourism service providers, Rukuri is built around three core principles: clarity of opportunity, ease of access, and transparency of process. The platform centralises curated hospitality roles, ranging from senior leadership and management positions to specialised operational and support functions, enabling job seekers to access relevant vacancies through one trusted channel. By consolidating listings and standardising how opportunities are presented, Rukuri helps ensure that candidates receive clear and consistent information, while employers benefit from improved visibility and reach within the industry’s talent pool.

For candidates, the platform provides the ability to apply for jobs, manage applications, and track progress in real time, reducing the uncertainty that often accompanies traditional recruitment processes. This end-to-end visibility empowers professionals to better plan their careers and make informed decisions about opportunities. For employers, Rukuri offers a unified dashboard to post vacancies, review verified candidate profiles, and manage the full hiring lifecycle more efficiently. This streamlined approach supports faster, more consistent decision-making and allows human resources teams to focus on selecting the right talent rather than managing fragmented administrative tasks.

Recognising the sector’s increasing reliance on flexible staffing models, Rukuri also places dedicated emphasis on freelance and project-based roles. The platform enables resorts and tourism businesses to engage verified professionals for short-term or specialised assignments, supporting operational agility during peak seasons, special projects, or transitional periods. At the same time, it maintains recruitment standards that help ensure quality, reliability, and accountability, which are essential in delivering the high service levels expected within the Maldivian hospitality industry.

To further strengthen confidence in hiring, Rukuri incorporates employment history and credential verification, encouraging the development of a trusted and credible talent pool. Reference checks are integrated directly into the platform, reducing manual follow-ups and shortening hiring timelines for employers while allowing candidates to present confirmed experience and qualifications. This focus on verification supports a more professional recruitment culture and contributes to building long-term trust between employers and the workforce.

Commenting on the launch, Ali ‘Thompey’ Faiz, Co-Founder of Island Recruits, said the platform was created to simplify and humanise recruitment in the Maldives. He noted that Rukuri was built on the belief that recruitment should be clearer, fairer, and more people-centred, and that providing one trusted space where individuals can find opportunities, apply with ease, and track their journey helps empower the Maldivian workforce while enabling employers to hire with greater clarity and precision.

Based in Malé, Rukuri is positioned as a strategic initiative to support the continued growth and global competitiveness of the Maldives’ tourism industry. By strengthening recruitment practices through a transparent, efficient, and professional digital ecosystem, the platform aims to contribute to a more resilient workforce, improved service standards, and sustainable development across resorts and tourism businesses throughout the country.
