Dhiraagu has successfully held the graduation ceremony for participants of the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme 2025, recognising the achievements of apprentices who have completed the programme for the 16th consecutive year. A total of 15 apprentices were awarded certificates, marking the culmination of a structured training journey designed to build practical workplace competencies and prepare young Maldivians for sustainable career pathways.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, as Chief Guest. Heads of educational institutions, alongside members of Dhiraagu’s board of directors and senior management, also attended the event, reflecting strong collaboration between the private sector and national education stakeholders in advancing youth development initiatives.
The Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme is the company’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and is recognised as the first corporate apprenticeship programme of its kind introduced in the Maldives. Since its launch in 2009, the programme has focused on enhancing employability and workplace readiness among young people by combining theoretical learning with hands-on professional exposure. To date, 312 Maldivian youth have enrolled in the programme, benefiting from its comprehensive approach to skills development.
In addition to celebrating the graduating cohort, Dhiraagu also welcomed the 17th batch of apprentices, with 25 new participants joining the programme this year. Through a well-defined training framework, participants are exposed to soft skills development, workplace ethics, and practical experience across multiple core business areas of the company. Apprentices are placed in Malé as well as at Dhiraagu’s regional operations centres nationwide, enabling them to gain insights into diverse operational environments and broaden their professional perspectives.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed commended Dhiraagu for setting a strong example in vocational and skills-based training over the past 17 years. He highlighted the programme’s contribution to national human capital development and expressed appreciation for the company’s sustained commitment to nurturing a skilled, confident, and employable workforce capable of supporting the country’s long-term socio-economic goals.
Dhiraagu Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed congratulated the graduating apprentices and extended a warm welcome to the new intake. He emphasised that the programme is designed to equip young people with practical professional experience, technical competencies, and a strong work ethic, enabling them to transition smoothly into the workforce. He further noted that Dhiraagu remains committed to providing opportunities that empower youth to realise their potential and build meaningful careers.
Through continued investment in the Dhiraagu Apprenticeship Programme, the company reaffirms its dedication to supporting youth development by offering intensive on-site training under the guidance of experienced professionals and management. The initiative reflects Dhiraagu’s broader commitment to corporate responsibility and its role in shaping a future-ready workforce that contributes positively to the nation and the wider global community.
